“It’s basically telling their fans “F U America”.
Any time people disrespect the anthem they do this. Stand, hand over heart, men remove your hat. Otherwise his is what you are saying
And everyone knows it. They lie when they say they don’t.
But in and of itself, not singing the anthem isn’t a problem.
Americans don’t. Sing publicly, as they once did...
Oh well, get ready to lose half your dozen or so viewers.
““Just being able to hear my national anthem, see my flag, I definitely want to stand. Now everybody that will not stand or not come out, I totally support them 100%. That’s our right, as an American in this great country,” Griner said.”
“But in and of itself, not singing the anthem isn’t a problem.”
That’s right. The headline and the story are red herrings. Divisive. They want people fighting over their lack of singing
That’s dumb
It’s the eye rolling lack of putting their hands over their hearts
They’re disrespecting the flag which represents the republic. The constitution
The constitution does not allow for the oppression they’re whining about so their protest is ignorant. They don’t read the constitution. They are ignorant of whatever they’re attempting to state. It’s mob thinking. It’s unprofessional. It is moot. It’s a cow’s opinion.
No one has to sing the anthem.
Plenty of other reasons to despise the women’s team. And I say this as one who used to enjoy watching them back during the Mia Hamm era.
It’s almost as if they were protesting the current President is illegitimate or something.
Lose half the audience. How do you have half of nothing?
I would want to know more details. Athletes often don’t sing along, or they sort of mouth the words so it looks like they are singing.
Boring perverts
Anyone getting U.S. Women’s Soccer Team fatigue?
Or, they are just standing there…
I guess it’s Okay not to like them. But you guys are looking for reasons that don’t exist.
The U.S. Soccer Federation is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions to the U.S. Soccer Federation
are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. U.S. Soccer’s tax identification number is 13-5591991.
To my knowledge, they are not receiving any money from the US government. However, they are receiving funds from sponsors to include Volkswagen, Nike, Allstate, AT&T, Bio Steel, Bud Light, Coca-Cola, Chipotle, Deloitte, TRULY Hard Seltzer, and Visa.
There is currently no law on the books that say anyone can not use the US as a name of a private enterprise. Another example of the use would be the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves who are America’s team. So they can call themselves a US or American team because they control the copyrights on the name. But the US only gives them tax free status, not a salary.
The main problem I see is that a half dozen of the women’s team has been allowed by the other players to shanghai the public face of the team and they are doing nothing about it. Everyone is so engrossed with making money they lose track of those that support them in the stands and expect a certain behavior. So the only recourse is boycott them and their sponsor’s products. I already do for some of them for other reasons...like Bud Light.

No longer “US team”. Traitors.
No, the whole team doesn't normally sing.
Watch any NFL, NBA, or MLB game. Do most of the players sing? No.
If you are in the stands at any professional sporting event, look around. Do most of the fans sing? No.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but Americans have largely lost the custom of singing the national anthem at public events. Most of us still stand, and many of us still place our hands over our hearts (though many don't), but most of us -- players and fans alike -- listen while a band plays. If we're lucky. Or we stand and wince while some showboating idiot singer turns the national anthem into some freakshow piece, which is what we should really ban.
At the Netherlands game, Lindsey Horan and Julie Ertz were singing while Trinity Rodman and Alex Morgan were at least whispering along, which is more than most U.S. fans do. The rest were standing impassively, like most athletes and fans at most sporting events. That's four out of the eleven starters. Compare that to the starting lineups at any NBA, NFL or MLB game.
Of course no one has to sing the anthem, and of course athletes don’t always sing.
HOWEVER, if the whole US women’s soccer team normally sings but half of them chose not to sing this time, then it’s likely they were doing some kind of protest. And it’s not unreasonable for people to respond to that.
The issue isn’t the NFL, NBA, MLB or the fans standing next to you. The issue is the US women’s soccer team.
Do they normally all sing? If so, then half of them not singing may very well be a protest.
