Lithium-ion batteries are ubiquitous. It might be a good thing if smartphones started exploding the way bicycle batteries seem to; we could then have a safety standard that phones have to shut down automatically after five minutes, and young people might suddenly realize that they aren’t really AI-guided pixels in a big simulation. Here and there, we hear about an occasional car battery acting out, but not many. Military and large commercial applications? Probably a few, but not enough to register, at least with me. So what’s up with e-bike batteries? Is there a particular problem in the supply chain for that one category of battery?
