[Their management thought that Farage is either an oik or is riff-raff.]
[He wanted to be a Coutts customer because it’s a prestige bank, they don’t think he’s prestige client material.]
[And yet my inbox is full of things like, join this class action lawsuit against the banks because they overprofited from fees, sue the hospitals because of possible misdiagnosis, sue the city if you’ve tripped on a loose paving stone, sue the city over potholes...
This toxic adversarial litigious culture is an American import. “Caution, this hot coffee is hot” labels on coffee cups is inane but it’s there because people can sue if they’re not told.]
[Farage is really not the best example of a person getting unjustly hit. Brexit was funded by the Kremlin, Farage was a figurehead. The Kremlin institutionally backs dirty money and Kompromat. Every attempt to clean up Russian banking has been torpedoed from the very top.]
Yup. Farage had offers from other banks in the group. He also had offers from other banks.
Also, in the Mail recently they’ve highlighted the example of an elderly couple who also lost their account without warning after decades of banking without issue. They’re not politically connected, aren’t rich, aren’t risky customers, and the bank hasn’t got a clue what their politics are.
It was something to do with them doing all their banking in branch and on paper, and not getting round to filling the right forms in before taking on some power of attorney type situation.
Banks do make ostensibly stupid decisions in the name of risk reduction, it’s not like Farage is the only person ever who’s been hit.
In Coutts’ case, they did have someone with a beef against Farage, go against Group policy on how to handle customers - they’ve been fired and the exec at NatWest who insisted there hadn’t been any stupidity over at Coutts had to go because their bold claim that Coutts wasn’t let by anti-riff-raff snobs turned out to be incorrect.
No, but the very fact that Farage publicly allies himself to a cause that European banks know is very often bankrolled by the Kremlin, does mark him out as a risk.
The point I’m making is that it’s NOT his Brexit campaigning that’s the issue; it’s that SOMEONE has been paying Farage for the better part of ten years to get Britain out of the EU. He’s not exactly self funded.
Farage has also started more political parties than pretty much any other British person who’s ever lived. He gets the donations, blows the load, doesn’t win, goes quiet for a bit, then comes back and starts another one.
Some people think he’s the ultimate comeback king although he’s never come back strong enough to actually win anything.
Other people think he’s a bit more like the managing director of a cowboy builder outfit; the kind of guy who takes a massive deposit for a building project then winds the company up, disappears for a bit, and then suddenly reappears trading under a completely different name a few weeks later.

Farage isn’t a proper politician with a proper political party. That’s why he keeps spinning up new parties that then break up soon after it has to start acting like a proper political party with more than one guy in it.
Farage lost it when a Tory he poached for ukip got elected and he didn’t. Check his biography.
He’s the Brexit male version of Meghan Markle.
