Do any FReepers use the Brave or Opera web browsers? Feedback wanted!

My last computer question here on FR generated a lot of furor and only limited useful information (mostly positive comments regarding the Firefox browser.) But I'd like more info (feedback) from FReepers who may have used Brave or Opera, for comparison, as I got none in my prior thread. Pro's and cons from hopefully extensive use would be great to receive! In online articles, Brave seems particularly well thought of from a privacy and security standpoint, without going to the extremes (and more limited functionality) of TOR.

"Hands on" users, please -- no "well my friend of my friend says..."

Thanks in advance!

This is not about the big three—Edge, Chromium, Firefox.

If you’re looking for an alternate with a lot of features, read up on and try out Vivaldi.

I like Brave. Blocks so many ads I sometimes accidentally include one in a view-selection copy-paste occasionally because I can’t see them.

Dig thru some of the above may help a little. Never used it.

I only use Brave now. Very happy with it. Several years now. Phone as well. Some folks have had issues but I haven’t. NEVER goggle! 🤣👍

I use Brave on my home Mac. It’s been much better than anything else I was using - faster, blocks a lot of extra junk, you can get reports if you’re into that. Been using it about 6-9 months I think...

I tried Brave on my Android smart phone, have not tried it on a desktop.

Google (aka Verizon) does not like Brave, I’m sure it is more secure. I recently removed it because I could not figure out how to make it behave on Verizon system.

But there is no security on the web, including cell phones.

Comparisons with Firefox are welcome, but I do NOT need sales pitches for Firefox without “hands on” experience with Brave or Opera for comparison. (I already have the stand-alone or comparisons-with-Chrome sales pitches for Firefox.)

Gracias!

I use Opera frequently. Okay but I still haven’t figured out how to add bookmarks. In Chrome you just hit the star,

Firefox is not in the same league as Edge and Chrome.

Opera is now Chinese-owned, IIRC.

Vivaldi is a chromium browser from a group previously associated with the original Opera. http://vivaldi.com

I also use FirefoxESR. There are some websites that will only work with ‘mainstream’ browsers — Firefox, IE [MS is making it obsolete], Edge.

I tried Brave but they changed the interface and I didn’t care for the new one.

Brave is an excellent browser although there are times when you won’t be able to make purchases from some website (because of the shield functionality),

Opera has an excellent built-in VPN for hiding your IP address. I use it extensively.

I've used Brave since it came out (around 4 years ago?).
Initially, the first couple of years, it wouldn't work with some websites, so I'd have to use another browser for to access those sites. But for the past couple of years, I have not had this issue. It works great for me.

I use Brave exclusively and it’s been just fine. No problems, blocks ads, I can unblock ads on any page I want to.

Runs smooth, multiple tabs and windows open at all times.

Extensions have worked fine but I don’t have too many. Bookmarks, it’s all there.

Of course it has updates that annoy the cr@p out of me but I suppose there are updates on every service.
And tabs and windows reopen after updating.

I like it just fine. Every few weeks or months I will open the chrome browser for a specific reason at that time.

Brave is my default browser and has been for five or six years. It works very well. Have had to switch to Safari only a couple times when Brave couldn’t deal with a third party application. I’m happy with Brave.

We use Brave.

The only down side is that some new features in some on line games may not work right away. After about a week they work.

Last time I checked, Opera had been bought by the Chinese.

I had used Brave for several years and switched to Chrome two months ago. Brave had been very buggy, some websites not loading, unable to complete checkout at many sites. I kept having to use Safari to check out. I finally decided to try other browsers. I tried Mozilla which I had used for about 10 years before Brave. Not a good experience, passwords and bookmarks did not transfer well. Ad blockers poorer performance.
Then I bit the bullet & changed to Chrome. I have resisted because I don’t trust Google’s privacy protection.
The switch to Chrome was a dream. Browsing is significantly faster >20%. Moving passwords & bookmarks from Brave was flawless. I made an export file from Brave and used Chrome options to import. There is a limit in the number of entries which initially stymied me but you can open the export file & remove entries you don’t use to get below 150kb.
I still use AOL mail (yes I’m one of those) and mail loads great. User name & password fill in much more quickly on all sites than on Brave. I was not able to get shipping addresses to move over but they need only be saved once and then they populate.
I am very happy with the switch & would never go back to Brave or Mozilla. I did have to audition several adblockers with Chrome. The promoted one Adblock plus was POOR, Total adblock was not satisfactory, uBlock Origin is great.
I hope you get some feedback on Opera. I have never used Opera.
