Cable TV Companies Are Losing Over 20,000 Subscribers Every Day As Cord Cutting Grows
Cord Cutters ^ | 07/08/23 | Luke Bouma

So far, 2023 was not very nice to cable TV companies. They lost a total of 1,820,943 subscribers in just the first 91 days of 2023. That works out to be over 20,000 subscribers every day. This comes from the Leichtman Research Group, which tracks the cable TV and streaming markets.

If that trend continues, over 7 million Americans will cancel cable TV in 2023. We will soon get a good idea of how that trend is going in the 2nd quarter of 2023. In August, multiple cable and satellite companies will report earnings for the 2nd quater. This will give us a good idea of how fast cord cutting will grow.

In total, over 60 million Americans still pay for a traditional cable TV service as of the end of the 1st quarter of 2023.

Many cable TV executives had hoped that live TV streaming services like Hulu, Sling TV, Fubo, and YouTube TV would replace the losses with cable TV. So far, that is now happening as these services lost a combined 394,000 in the first three months of 2023.

Increasingly most cord cutters have decided that live TV is something they just don’t need. If you are not a sports fan, it seems like you are not interested in paying for a live TV service.

I returned all their equipment. I now only have internet and “land line” phone. I’m saving over $100/month. I now subscribe to YouTube TV and Britbox. I don’t miss a thing. Not one thing.

Several stream services just doubled their rates. We axed them.

I think years ago, some network, perhaps NBC, marketed their prime time lineup as “must see TV”

How many people think in terms of “must see” TV programs anymore? If indeed they ever did?

I wish I could cut the cord myself, but I will have to train my boyfriend to use the Chromecast.

Cable has become even more expensive than it was before the scamdemic. It is still nowhere close to being worth what they charge. No wonder alot of people are cutting the cord, they just can’t afford it under “brandonomics”.

If you don’t have cable TV you can’t watch CNN. How then could you get the news?

Asking for a friend.

It’s not just the “cord cutters” it’s also the “cord nevers” younger individuals and immigrants who never sign up for cable for their first time.

I subscribe to Youtube TV as well. Beautiful pic. Volume clear. They did have a food fight with MLB and no longer available.

Also, it sometimes doesn't play well with LG TV. But they are "working on it" they tell me.

I have an LG TV, but I use a Roku for streaming. I feel like my “smart tv” is too nosy. (My Roku may be just as nosy for all I know..)

DirecTV used to be famous for its great customer service.

Then, what, AT&T bought them? Awful ever since.

We were paying for the pricey NFL Sunday Ticket package — only to find out mid-season that in fact not all NFL games were available via DTV due to some fee dispute with FOX. For those we had to resort to free, over-the-air TV broadcasts!

The latest is that NBC programming is no longer available via DTV, probably for the same fee dispute reasons. I don’t watch NBC, but Mrs. F does.

No wonder people are cutting the cord!

Yeah, "Mad About You," "Friends," and "Seinfeld."

Not one of which pushed any sort of political gaslighting agenda at its audience.

Don't need Fox cable.

RAV live streams about 18 hours a day.

Same here, but image quality and sound isn’t as good. Even OTA beats streaming, DVR still beats them all.

It also is difficult to use YouTube TV with Samsung. Evidently I can never program out the Samsung crap so it goes directly to YouTube TV. So there’s a delay when switching the TV on. I don’t like that, but I’ve never found the workaround.

CUE TV found on Firestick is a new streaming service. Cost $60 per month. No additional charges for any content. Free movie channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. Any and all sports events worldwide.
Here’s the twist. You can sign up to be a sponsor. Meaning you can sign up new users and earn $6 per user, per month. If your users sign up users, you get $4 per user, per month. All you do is provide your personalized link for their sign up. A Sponsor could get their CUE TV for free and earn an income. And it is owned by Patriots.
