I worked for 20+ years in "front line" medicine at a major hospital. I've seen schizophrenia...up close.I've seen it many times. There was a time when even top physicians at top medical schools blamed bad parenting for their schizophrenic son or daughter.

But today it's recognized that it's a brain disorder.

I’m not sure how to relate your story to what I wrote: are you relating gender dysphoria to schizophrenia? Are you saying people are failing to recognize the illness of transexuals? Or that people who think that transexuals are just seeking attention like people who thought schizophrenics were just poorly parented?
