Longtime host and political commentator Geraldo Rivera announced his official departure from Fox News Thursday afternoon via a Twitter video, which he filmed while on a boat.
'Bumpy day on the North Atlantic. Anyway, I got fired from @TheFive so I quit Fox. After 23 years tomorrow Fox and Friends could be my last appearance on the network. Thanks for the memories,' he captioned the video.
The 79-year-old said he had been fired from The Five - Fox's daily roundtable political commentary show - and so he subsequently quit the network after more than two decades.
He added he would have more to say about his departure on Fox & Friends Friday morning.
The news of Rivera's departure was seemingly a long time coming, as news broke last week he had been booted from The Five following a number of on-air disagreements between him and co-hosts Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld.
Rivera, who has been a staple of FOX News since 2001, announced his sudden ouster on Twitter last week, writing: 'It's official, I'm off The Five. My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th.

In the clip, Midler hesitates in recounting what she alleges happened with Rivera during his visit to interview her in the early 70s, saying it will get her in trouble. “Get in a little trouble,” Walters encourages her.
After Rivera and a producer left their TV crew in another room, they “pushed me into my bathroom. They broke two poppers and pushed them under my nose and proceeded to grope me,” she said. “Poppers” is slang for the alkyl nitrites class of drugs.
“I did not offer myself up on the altar of Geraldo Rivera,” said Midler, calling his behavior “unseemly”.
Gee, that’s a shame.
