Another question I have -- In ICE vehicles we talk about stepping on the "gas pedal" to accelerate.
An EV does not run on gas, so is it a "volt pedal" or a "go pedal"? After all, we want to be politically correct, so what should it be called? /s
He unicorns are on strike 🤣🤣🤣
True that. If you want real-world math from my experience it's:
1) My EV gets 3.4 miles per kWh (on average, less than that when traveling 80mph, more than that for around town). So to drive a 40 mile round trip daily would required 12 kWh of power per day.
2) In my area I get on average a hair over 5 peak solar hours per day (less in winter months, more in summer months).
3) 12 divided by 5 means I'd need 2.4kW of solar system to handle average days (I'd need more on rainy winter days, less on clear summer days).
4) My newest solar panels on my roof installed 10 months ago bring in 330W (0.33 kW). Thus, 7 large solar panels like those wouldn't quite be enough to power the EV on average days.
Then you get into things like if the solar panels were somehow mounted onto the EV then it would have to be parked outside during the day instead of parked under shelter to protect your shiny new expensive car from the elements. Plus, the solar panels would add drag and weight and reduce your miles/kWh throughput. Etc.
50 MPH is about all one can get out of a Prius ...
When the Prius first came out there was a joke going around Texas that being the bigger truck stops were adding ‘Prius removal service’ bays to extract the remains of any Prius that could not get out of the way of the big rigs that typically ran 80-90 MPH on I-45 between Houston and Dallas.
RE: 50 MPH is about all one can get out of a Prius ...
I actually meant MPG ( Miles per Gallon ) when I referrd to my Prius. Sorry about that.
My average cruise speed where I live is 65 MPH Miles per HOUR).
“experts predicting the need for more than a million new public EV charging stations in the U.S. by 2030 to accommodate the demand”
And just like most of what “experts predict”, this will probably turn out to be dead wrong.
Got to be “an”. Just sounds better.
Better to go with H2 (Hydrogen). EV’s are too fickle and they blow up your house when you park in the attached garage.
All you fags with EVs? What a laugh. The situation with the eco-brainwashed is worse in the UK. The homes are more modest there. So putting in a home charging station is more of a big deal. (I have seen my nephew’s home charging station in Tennessee)
So......... In the UK where you are using public charging stations. My bet is you are paying the same as a gasoline fueled car and vehicle. My automobile is a fuel efficient 2016 Honda
Nothing the government can’t fix. And imagine how much thieves are going to make stealing the copper cables.
I was meeting some friends for dinner. One ‘texted’ and said, “I’ll be a few minutes late, I have to get gas.”
Next it will all be, “I will be four hours late, I have to charge my government mandated golf cart.”
Biden’s “infrastructure” bill has big money in it to pay for charging stations, whether they are needed or not.
I know several Prius owners, who have been satisfied for years with them. I agree they may end up with a far bigger market share than BEV’s.
Where are we going to get all the coal needed to power all these new charging stations?
“Exactly, where will they get the electricity to power a million new public EV charging stations in the U.S. by 2030 to accommodate the demand?
Unicorn farts, silly!” Democratic ship. Never run out.
and EV Charging stations are magic
.......The EV Charging Challenge: US Needs A Million More Stations By 2030.......
No we don’t! We need to BAN EVs instead!!!!
the latter. restrict the ability of citizens to move around the country and you are well on your way to dictatorship.
There’s nothing like a $100 billion investment looking for a purpose...
