I believe (and I could be wrong) that USB has four wires, two of which carry power (+5V/Return), and two of which carry data (+Data/-Data). If you have a cable with just two wires for charging, I think you should be safe.

I always bring my own charger and find an AC outlet. Always. It's just not worth the risk.
