AB was once like winning the sales lottery. They show up, write down $20,000 order and earn a couple hundred dollars for one store and they might do 10 or 15 stores in a day.
There aren’t many sales jobs that you can earn $300,000 or $400,000/yr just by being willing to show up for work.
From the LA Times, 1998:
“Anheuser-Busch Cos. said it agreed to sell a Chicago beer distributorship to a group led by two sons of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, who 16 years ago spearheaded a boycott against the world’s largest beer maker.Transfer of the River North distributorship to Yusef Jackson, his brother Jonathan and a third partner, Donald Niestrom Jr., will take effect Dec. 1, said the St. Louis-based maker of Budweiser, Bud Light and other brands.”
Once upon a time, before A-B got terminally stupid, they were quite happy to get mau-maued into rewarding JJ’s race-hustling by granting one of those cash cows to his boys.
