SR 71 pilot Brian Shul suddenly died last night in Reno, Nevada, at age 75, of a cardiac arrest. He is well known for his story speed check. He was a courageous man who fought his way back from a debilitating plane crash in 1973, His goal was to fly the SR 71, and he achieved his goal. Brian died doing what he enjoyed the most, talking about the SR 71. He was last night's keynote speaker at the Nevada military support alliance annual gala. After his speech, he keeled over, and doctors in the house performed emergency CPR to no avail. Prayers for his family🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸 and his many Friends.

Friend of mine was the RSO on the Blackbird. Just emailed him to see if he ever flew with this guy.

Wow, great motivational story. RIP.
But I did wonder why he retired as only a Major, I would guess some of his antics as a 12 year old caught up with him.
To: CtBigPat
There was a video he did for military medical in-processing
Brilliant
He went down in south Viet Nam burned terribly
Much time and effort recovering
Medically retired as major I imagine.

As a young Airman second class, I worked on the SR-71 as an electronics technician at Beale AFB. (This was in the 60s, before Shul's time in the AC, and before the airplane was referred to as the "Blackbird".)
His story of not giving up and of overcoming astonishing adversities is one that should be told to every young American.
