I am very much impressed with this kid, but my impression is the Mom is pushing to make all this happen for more bragging rights. It’s fine that he’s into advanced courses, but school is about more than grades, it allows one to learn about getting along with other kinds of people, or learning to manage time efficiently.
In addition, what does this boy now have to look forward to? Is Mom picturing another Doogie Howser M.D. type prodigy in a lab coat, independently treating patients? Part of what makes childhood precious and joyous would be having fun and trying things out at your leisure. Seems like he is not allowed much downtime with
Sargeant Mom looking at her stopwatch all the time.
No. Mom is Chinese. They are that way. That is why they do so well in school ha they are universities limit their numbers. They show up their “minority” students.
But this is also why the ultimate overachievers are almost always Asians, because they don't see childhood as "having fun and trying things out," but working as hard as jigoku to get to the top of whatever it is you are aiming for, as fast as possible, before someone else gets there.
Really? Nobody ever told me or my parents that.
