Rainbow is the name of this unincorporated area of North San Diego County. Rainbow is the last parcel of San Diego County before crossing the County Line into Riverside County and the City of Temecula.
It’s just east and right behind the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base, and north of the numerous Navy and Marine bases in San Diego.
The area has been called Rainbow for a long, long time, going back to the 1880s when the word rainbow had no political connotation to it.
The area, previously known as “Vallecitos” (little valley), was renamed “Rainbow Valley” in the late 1880s, after Mr. James Peebles Marshall Rainbow, who bought a homestead there. JPM Rainbow was a farmer, a rancher, and a Republican who had been nominated for Sheriff and who served in County Government as a Supervisor.

Unfortunately, the leftist freaks hijacked the word rainbow in the 60s or 70s …
Thanks for the details.
If kids these days (meaning any born after Baby Boomer Generation) had to live through things like that maybe they wouldn’t be the ME-ME, Look at Me !, I just turned 15 and nobody gave me a new car for my birthday present, useless, lazy, expecting a handout of everything, American hate mongers that they are.
Used to drive old 395 from San Diego to March AFB in the 70’s...
I remember this place!
Cheers er
