Germany and, well all of the west to varying degrees remind me of the old Russian proverb with letting in millions of young military age immigrants.
A strong, burly Russian got very drunk with his friends and boasted of his ability to wrestle anyone. His friends laughed a said you wouldn’t wrestle a bear, he replied that of course he would, As luck so happens just then a large Kodiak looking critter walks out of the woods. So the Russian takes a big swig and walked over to the bear and gets him in a fierce grip.
For a second and right before the bear stated devouring the Russian there was a pause and stillness and the Russian’s voice was clearly heard “now I have the bear in a hug…what am I supposed to do?”.
If anyone can’t see the parallels to what is going on and this story I suggest they need to drink less vodka as well.
As to the parallels, we were legal residents in Germany until my wife's retirement. From Merkel's "wir schaffen es" to her conclusion that German attempts to prove multiculturalism a success failed, and that was only a few years' time out of her sixteen. The myth of free money will linger awhile, as Germans have traditionally saved. Even the local press started calling saving "hoarding money." The political class has the "bear in a hug" and wants to know what to do, but is unable to see their complicity. So as Schäuble said, "revolution." It's being delivered slowly but surely.
