Is it perhaps because we were and are currently involved, that Putin was not able to just steamroll over them?
As I recall Putin’s goals were limited and did not include taking all of Ukraine, primarily the Donetsk, the pro-Russian territory. That, and destroying the pro-Nazi military units. I’m having a senior moment and don’t remember the rest.
