California does woke things that eventually screws everyone. No one gets away unaffected.

It is not just California; it is the entire West Coast. My wife and I live in Washington State in the foothills. Fortunately, our neighborhood has natural gas. Our power goes out here frequently when there are wind storms mostly fall through spring. Sometimes it doesn’t come back on for several days and occasionally a couple of weeks. All of our neighbors have generators. Many have been enabled to use natural gas, which is cheaper and much more convenient.

Washington has been banning the extension of natural gas to new neighborhoods, so people who have moved into new houses near us no longer have this option.

Is heat-pump heat as cost-effective as natural gas heat in your fairly mild climate (mountains excepted)?

Our lot is less than 4 miles from downtown Main Street. The 55 lot subdivision was platted, engineered and began being sold in ‘78.

We have only phone (1.5 MB DSL — very slow so no-one uses it) and electricity. Everyone has propane and most have buried propane tanks...

We don’t need cable because of satellite TV providers.

I DO understand not too many states allow underground propane tanks. I wonder if WA would not allow propane tanks?

The state of Oregon just solicited bids for a big natural gas powered emergency backup generator (100 kW) for the governor’s mansion.
