Did those studies adminster HCQ in combination with zinc, as the protocol which was claimed to be effective called for? Because all of the studies of HCQ I saw had no zinc included. Seems to me they tested a claim about a med with a different med (in essence) and said ‘the original med doesn’t work’ which seems an odd way to do it.
Nope. They always set up the tests to fail. No zinc, waited until patients were almost dead, …. It was very disingenuous. That and there were stacked therapies that helped in competing ways hence the various protocols. No one said take just this one item. Well except Phizer and moderna but their treatment caused long term damage but they made billions.
I don’t see how your point holds. The 2005 trial found CQ as tested to be highly effective against SARS:

The March 2020 China study claimed CQ and HCQ to be effective against SARS-2. They believed it to be working in the fashion that they used it, zinc supplement or not.

The problem is that others weren’t getting the same results when they attempted it. In 2020 there were no known remedies and everyone wanted it to work.
The 2005 trial was on Green Monkey tissue in the lab and it’s not unusual to find that doesn’t transfer to in vivo.
China claimed success in their 2020 test but that also appears to be another Green Monkey tissue trial; footnote #3 in Table 1.
