They burried the lede:

“Barbara Haya, the director of the Berkeley Carbon Trading Project, has been researching carbon credits for 20 years, hoping to find a way to make the system function. She said: “The implications of this analysis are huge. Companies are using credits to make claims of reducing emissions when most of these credits don’t represent emissions reductions at all.

“Rainforest protection credits are the most common type on the market at the moment. And it’s exploding, so these findings really matter. But these problems are not just limited to this credit type. These problems exist with nearly every kind of credit.

“One strategy to improve the market is to show what the problems are and really force the registries to tighten up their rules so that the market could be trusted. But I’m starting to give up on that. I started studying carbon offsets 20 years ago studying problems with protocols and programs. Here I am, 20 years later having the same conversation. We need an alternative process. The offset market is broken.”

Those of us that are old enough remember a cereal company that gave you a deed for one square inch of Alaska.
Bull shiite “Carbon credits are about as valuable.

When we were in the height of mask madness in my blue state, they even had signs on the bike trails imploring people to wear masks.

Not that I would do that.

So, I am riding down the bike trail one day, sunny day, quite windy, and me-maskless.

I see this woman on a bike approaching me, and her bike begins weaving as she frantically tries to put a mask on.

The risk she exposed herself to in those moments on the verge of losing control of her bicycle were exponentially greater than the risk of somehow catching hold of a virus outdoors on a windy day.

I still shake my head thinking of the sheep-like stupidity.

Lots of that going round.

You mean the scam we all said was a scam turned out to be a scam?

The graphic toward the end of the article is useful to help understand how the schemes work.

Who is profits and how are they washing the money through the foundations, think tanks, non-profits, and NGOs?

It seems this is an area that could have a lot of what Joe Rogan might call “f**kery” going on.

Of course.

What a scam it always has been, but great bait for a virtue signaling fool and their money to be parted.

I have been thinking of setting up a carbon offset business.

Somebody sends me a hundred dollars, I will plant a tree, send them a picture. Honest.

It would probably be the only honest carbon offset endeavor in the world. Algore would be enraged.

In my county, masks have been optional for over a year now. I’m always maskless when shopping. Too frequently, I see the poor neurotic souls still walking around with masks over their face.

One day, a masked fellow approached me. He asked “Are masks required here?” I told him no, and he ripped his off “Thank GOD!”

“…the rapidly growing $2 billion VOLUNTARY offsets market”

Buying indulgences was also “voluntary” a few hundred years ago.

Verra’s Offices are in Washiington DC. The Board Chairman is Dr. Tao Yun. The bio states:

“Dr. Tao Yun brings rich experience in the fields of environmental protection, IT, investment, and big data. He worked as a senior manager in multinationals, Chinese state-owned, and public companies. He has also founded multiple start-ups, including co-founding the environmental asset division of Beijing ZBX Group which has built and is maintaining IT infrastructures in 3 of China’s 7 pilot carbon markets. In addition to climate change issues, he is also interested in water usage allowances, garbage permits, and plastic reduction. Tao received his PhD in Ecology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. “

international experience in these areas is important

Excellent idea. Why not set up a non-profit organization to fund the maintenance and protection of the forest?

Put your friends and family on the board. Hire staff to write grant proposals, do fund raising, manage the money, and to care for the tree.

Even if the offsets were real, they’re meaningless as China builds at least 10 coal plants for every one that the West shuts down, and China no longer has to take jack from the West regarding how they operate their country.

Beyond that, and thanks to ‘brilliant’ sanctions policy against Russia, most of the Third World is figuring out what China knows, so all we’re doing is collapsing our (Western) economies, while the rest of the world catches up, and likely surpasses us.

Exactly. It was clear from the start that “carbon offset” was a scam, but a scam willingly entered into by cynical hypocrites like AlGore, Disney, Google, Sierra Club, etc.

Only mindless zombies like The Guardian would be surprised to find this out.

I was watching the program “Customer Wars” on TV yesterday and they showed videos of people during the pandemic and their reactions to others not wearing a mask. It was both hilarious and disturbing what people are capable of when they have been fed so many lies about the scamdemic. I’m talking flat-out assault on others that weren’t wearing a mask or that weren’t “vaccinated”.

It absolutely breaks my heart to see what terror our institutions (government, health, regulatory, etc.) have decided to voluntarily inflict on vulnerable people.

I admit to having little sympathy for people who aren’t elderly or somehow physically or mentally compromised. Contempt is the dominant feeling I have when I see young people wearing a mask in a car or a store.

But it saddens me to see the panic in the eyes of people who have been fed all this BS and may have good reason to be nervous.

Personally, I was up in southern Maine in a very liberal part of the state (Belfast) and was accosted twice for not wearing a mask when outdoors. In one case, I was sitting in a folding chair reading a book about 10-15 feet on the grass off a paved walking trail, and two women gave me crap about not having a mask.

Unbelievable.

They are 110% worthless. They are a scam. Called indulgences so that one company like Tesla can sell the credits they get fro electric vehicles from the corrupt gov’t to sell to another company to lower their made up gov’t exposure.
