Gut Bacterium Linked to Depression in Premenopause

The opportunistic pathogen Klebsiella aerogenes degrades estradiol and induces depressive-like behavior in mice.

Gut Bacterium Linked to Depression in Premenopause women

Klebsiella aerogenes, a bacterium associated with poor clinical outcomes in hospitals, is more prevalent in the gut of premenopausal women with depression than in premenopausal women without it, reports a study published today (March 17) in Cell Metabolism. The authors identified a key enzyme in the bacterium’s genome that degrades the ovarian hormone estradiol.

Declining estradiol levels have been linked to female depression in humans. After finding that the levels of this steroid hormone were significantly lower in 91 menopausal women with depression than in 98 menopausal women without this mood disorder, a team at the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, China, explored the influence of the gut microbiome on these differences.

By sequencing its genome, the team further found the presence of an estradiol-degrading enzyme—an enzyme that, in earlier work, a team led by the same researchers had reported also degrades testosterone, inducing depressive-like behaviors in male mice.

Engineering this enzyme into an Escherichia coli strain and feeding it to female mice was sufficient to reduce the animals’ blood, lower brain, and hippocampus estradiol levels and induce depressive-like behaviors.

Anyone else see a bioweapon that can be spread by balloon?

A bacteria that produces an enzyme that de-masculinates men and give men and women depression.

Sound like a trans-female producing enzyme.

Estradiol

Common brands: Yuvafem, Delestrogen, EstroGel
Hormone

It can treat symptoms caused by menopause or removal of the ovaries. It can also treat prostate and breast cancer, and prevent osteoporosis.

What does the estradiol hormone do?

Estradiol has several functions in the female body. Its main function is to mature and then maintain the reproductive system. During the menstrual cycle, increased estradiol levels cause the maturation and release of the egg, as well as the thickening of the uterus lining to allow a fertilized egg to implant.

What happens when estradiol is low?

Irregular periods or no periods (amenorrhea). Weight gain, especially in your belly. Headaches before or during your period. Decreased sex drive and painful intercourse.

Anyone see any potential problems here?

Along the same lines, does anyone else see, in all of our “sick poultry” nationwide, a bioweapon that HAS been spread? If not by Chinese balloons, how about by Chinese illegal immigrants?

Where do all these illegals easily find work?

Nah. E. Coli is a rare bacteria, found primarily on Mars. ;-)

A Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center study involving postmenopausal, overweight, and obese women who took 2,000 IUs of vitamin D daily for a year found that those whose vitamin D blood levels increased the most had the greatest reductions in blood estrogens.

Scientists believe that obese and overweight people have lower levels of vitamin D because the nutrient is stored in fat deposits. A prevailing theory is that during weight loss, the vitamin D trapped in fat tissue is released into the blood and becomes available throughout the body.

I never realized that vitamin D levels influence estrogen levels.

So is the complete story is that a particular gut bacteria reduces estradiol. that reduction in estradiol causes pre menapausal depression. so the solution to pre menapausal depression is to take estradiol. There are several brands: Common brands: Yuvafem, Delestrogen, EstroGel Hormone.

Correct?
