America used to have little things that reflected the honesty of our people.
There was a story from around 1970 about someone who kept money in a mounted box on a road of the community and how over the years sometimes the money ran low and sometimes it was more than the couple of hundred that started it, but when the story broke the money had been there for whoever needed it, for many years, people would dip in, people would pay it back, but it was completely self-maintained.

I’ve been told that if you dropped your wallet in Tokyo it would still be there with all the money in it.

There are still many farm stands in my neighborhood that rely on the honor system, in particular farm eggs. You slip money into the cash box and take your eggs. On some occasions, I slipped an I.O.U. with my phone number in there when I didn't have the right change and paid it back on next trip there.
Nowadays some of those farm stands are taking Venmo as well.
