The man who sparked outrage by abandoning a German Shepherd in broad daylight in Texas has been arrested, charged, and identified as an individual illegally in the U.S., the Dallas Police Department and county jail records say.
Ramiro Zuniga (L) in a Dallas County Jail mugshot, (R) the moment the German Shepherd was abandoned on the side of Dowdy Ferry Road (WFAA screengrab).
Ramiro Zuniga, 41, was arrested Saturday and charged with a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge, stemming from an incident that shocked locals last Wednesday evening.
The video, which was recorded by the animal rescue group the Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission, clearly showed an adult male abandoning the dog by Dowdy Ferry Road and Teagarden Road before speeding off, even as witnesses yelled at him. In one heartbreaking moment, the dog briefly chased after the white Chevrolet SUV into oncoming traffic. The canine avoided being hit, however, thanks to the alert and caring citizens who witnessed the abandonment in the first place.
The Dallas Police Department confirmed to Law&Crime that the then-“unknown suspect” abandoned the dog around 6:04 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Animal control responded and recovered the dog in good condition,” police noted.
In an update over the weekend, the Dallas Police Department said that Zuniga was identified as the suspect and that a search warrant was executed at his residence.
“On March 11, 2023, the Dallas Police Department’s Southeast CRT team executed a search warrant on Zuniga’s home, locating the vehicle used in the crime, and Zuniga was taken into custody,” cops said.
Zuniga was booked thereafter at the Dallas County Jail on the cruelty to non-livestock animals misdemeanor charge. While bond was set at $4,000, jail records say that Zuniga remains in custody on an immigration hold requested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The only question I have is, Did he vote in the 2020 election?
Why are they calling an illegal alien a “Texas” driver?
**Kill** someone in Calif, you walk w/o bond.
Dump and mutt and go to jail in TX.
No wonder everybody wants to lie in TX
Just doing the animal abuse that Americans refuse to do....
I’m glad they found him.
We benefit in so many ways from the rich contributions of diverse cultures.
I’m glad they found him.
You can only imagine the things happen in Mexico when it comes to dogs, because they can do what they want with them without repercussions.
Most Americans would already presume there were cameras nearby pointed near where the grassy edge meets the street.
The moment you leave your home, always assume at least one fixed camera is recording your movements.
Surrendering the dog to a shelter would have been the better choice, but this guy didn’t want anyone knowing who he was.
Somebody save the dog before he eats it
They need to make sure they drop all the motor vehicle violations on his goat smellin’ ass. Driving without a license. No insurance. Dumping along the side of the road. Send the bass turd to Mayorkas and make the SOB drive this scumbag back to Mexico.
I agree what he did was bad, but you wouldn’t want to have lived during my Grandmother’s youth. She told me while she was growing-up that if the dog got sick, the dog would get a bullet, and the family would get a new dog.
I saw that video days ago. Heartbreaking. The poor dog tries to get back in the car, and when the POS “human” drives off without him, the dog then tries to follow the car. Figures the jerk is an illegal alien. Illegals are often horrible to animals, but liberals and animal rights groups say nothing.
We need much more diversierisy and stuff
Nothing inhumane about that. Instant death is much better than dropping off and abandoning them.
Dirty little secret is that a lot of college students abandon their pets when they graduate and move out.
Of course he did and more than once
Because ANYTHING bad + the word "Texas" = prog media points.
It is the prog way, lie, deny, mislead, deceive.
.
A lot of Hispanics treat their animals like garbage. My neighbor has starved his cows nearly to death this winter because he’s too cheap to buy hay. He lets his dogs run the neighborhood to scrounge for food. Drive-by drop offs are a regular occurrence here in the valley. I know this a broad brush, but it really is the truth.
I saw that happen in Cali a long time a go. A Vietnamese guy in a Mercedes drove to a park at night where I was skateboarding and tossed a dalmatian out. The dog ran around confused for minute and then took off.
