Michael Irvin refiles lawsuit vs. Marriott in Arizona, will release surveillance video

Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin has moved his $100 million lawsuit against Marriott from a federal court in Texas to an Arizona state court and scheduled a news conference Tuesday at which he and his attorney plan to show the surveillance video capturing the Feb. 5 conversation between Irvin and a Phoenix hotel staffer that is at the center of his complaint.

Irvin filed paperwork Monday for the lawsuit’s voluntary dismissal from Eastern District federal court. But the lawsuit is still alive, and no settlement has been reached between the sides. The case moved because Irvin and his legal team have collected more information on the incident and parties involved, influencing the case’s jurisdiction, Irvin’s attorney Levi McCathern told The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday.

According to Marriott, she reported these statements to a manager the next day, prompting the hotel to conduct its own investigation before notifying the NFL.

Marriott are not "law enforcement." I get that they need to know what happens in their hotels, but why are they "conducting investigations," and issuing penalties (removing Irvin from hotel). Why not just let the cops do it?

With the article behind a paywall I cannot see anything about the “incident” - but I generally think of hotel staff as so passive and uninvolved, that they are more likely to commit sins of omission than commission. I assume he wants to infer some racist motivation and shake down Marriot while not disclosing the evidence. Just taking a wild stab here.

Marriott are not "law enforcement."

Give a corporation a few big government contracts and they start thinking they are part of the government...

I couldn’t see the video, but I was able to see the entire article in which the new video is explained. Sounds like two different stories...and the gold-digging woman was lying. I hope he burns Marriott for the hundred mil. Marriott had the video from the beginning and KNEW THE TRUTH.

It’s not behind a paywall for me, but that may be because I’m in Texas.

With regards to hotel policy yes they are cops of their own property. Wifey works for a large chain and they will investigate if policy is violated, ie abuse of staff, disregard of hotel policies. Lots of reasons.

Actually hotel having their own security is pretty standard. And doing a quick check of available tapes if somebody complains is just common sense. And there’s no reason to involve the cops when kicking somebody out unless it escalates. It’s all very normal.

I believe that it was the Eagles who said that or did they just plagiarize it?

They at the least should have looked at the video and heard from their employees what happened.
