I live at 4000 feet elevation in the Sierras. Our deck and roof are loaded with snow and we are expecting eight inches of rain. We can’t shovel it and can’t find anyone else to do it. Scary!

Pray! And I also pray for your safety and wisdom in knowing what to do.

Can you place props inside the house and under the deck? My parents used to have a cabin near Mt. Hood in Oregon, and we put a 4X4 support in the middle of the main room every winter. But then we’d also clear the roof after each major snowfall.

The price of roof snow rakes must be very high in those areas.

I'm at 4600 feet in SE Idaho. We continue to get snow almost daily and night time temps into the single digits. Fortunately, the snow volume has been measured in 4 to 6 inch falls with some melt off from afternoon sun. Next week the temperatures will move to a +34F to +38F range with rain. The large accumulations of snow on the surrounding mountains (6000 to 9000 ft) will experience rapid melting, so we anticipate some local flooding.

Stay safe and alert.

Wow, that's a lot of weight, at least until the snow slides off. I'm curious... How big are the house joists there? In MA, 2 x 10 on 18 inch centers is common.
