Most definitely in Canada. There's an understanding that a pico-hydro turbine won't allow them to be off-grid. We're talking about if it'll cut costs more than it adds to cost.
My solar system produces 80% of the power we need in our all-electric home, including charging the EV which we do most of the driving in. That isn't nearly enough for me to cut ties with the power utility and be off grid. But it's plenty enough so that energy cost inflation doesn't mess up my retirement financial planning. That's the kind of thing they're wanting, if not 80%.
