The manufacturer that recently shut down, Akorn Operating Company LLC, had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2020.
It was the only company to make certain albuterol products used for continuous nebulizer treatment. It’s a staple in children’s hospitals, but had been out of stock since last fall. Without that particular form of the product, hospitals have had to scramble to find alternatives.

They proposed spraying the atmosphere
They admitted it would harm young/old and any with respiratory problems but that the ends justified the means
In the years since then COPD became a thing
Now this.
You do the eugenics transhuman overpopulation math.

Isn’t this global change orchestrated by enviro whackos ?
How does the sole manufacturer of a sought after medicine go out of business?
Poor management.

How could a outfit that has market dominance go bankrupt ?
By accident ?
By incompetence ?
By crushing fed regulation ?
On purpose ?
Since COPD is supposedly terminal
I guess it doesn’t matter to me,

(Just thought a heads up was in order.)
We once had a President that would find out about something like this, bring the appropriate people in for a meeting to work out a solution.
Now we have one that laughs at parents who talk about their kids dying from Fentanyl.
We never seemed to have these problems until Biden cheated to steal the White House.
I use an albuterol inhaler for my asthma. This is not good. I have five inhalers stocked up though.
They can use racepinephrine, terbutaline, etc. There are alternatives, but albuterol is cheap, plentiful and effective.
Didn’t the Obama regime try to implement some kind of environmental order that effectively banned certain components in this drug? All in the name of environmental issues of all things.
Thank you for your reassuring post.
Women and George Floyd hit hardest.
Well, perhaps we can offset it with the surplus of covid vaccines

I believe they banned the CFC propellant used that was very effective and replaced it with something that was not nearly as good. All in the name of protecting the ozone layer. And I think it was done at the end of Bush Jr.
That would be HFC’s, which don’t have medicinal value, but were the inesrt gases used in albuteral inhalers. This forced asthmatics to use the less effective powder based inhalers. I’ll never forgive him for that.
“”They can use racepinephrine, terbutaline, etc. There are alternatives, but albuterol is cheap, plentiful and effective.””
I use albuterol in the nebulizer once a day for COPD. I doubt my pulmonologist would even recommended or know of any alternatives. I’ve gotten the cold shoulder from him since I told him the Covid vaccine was a bunch of hooey and NO, I didn’t intend to have it. I have the rescue inhaler but seldom need to use it. I do use Symbicort..
Albuterol is definitely cheap - I get a large box - 360 vials for $00.45.
They lost their Montreal Protocol exemption in 2005 and change formulations in 2008, but replacing CFC propellants wouldn’t cause severe shortages or even increase costs. It was actually the pharma companies who lobbied for it, as it allowed them to re-patent their drugs without having to really change anything.
There is a correlational between asthma and urbanization, so live where the air is cleaner for lower risk. Of course, the entire western USA is breathing China’s air pollution...
