“Write it. Shoot it. Publish it. Crochet it, Sauté it, whatever. MAKE.” ~ Joss Whedon
The Monthly Create, Make and Share Thread is a monthly gathering of people that love to create and make. From yarn (crochet, knitting), fabric (sewing, quilting), threads (embroidery, weaving), wood crafts, ceramics, artwork and anything else you create and would like to share, this is the place to do it. Sharing something you’ve created and/or made is pure joy...and we need joy in our lives!
From complete Newbies that are looking to start that first project, to experienced artists, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions or would like advice, there’s probably someone on the thread who would be able to help.
It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Create, Make and Share Thread. Knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting, weaving, general crafting, art, wood working, patterns, articles on any of these topics, or even your own writing. There is no telling where it will go, and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you’d like to be added to our Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a Month Ping List. We DO post to the thread during the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to other Create, Make and Share fans are welcomed any time.
This is VERY true!
I’m doing a ‘Use It Up!’ challenge with some friends, so YARN and other craft supplies are in that list. I’ll be ‘going in’ next rainy/snowy day. ;)

So I had a change of heart on this baby blanket (February post #37) for a couple of reasons:
~ The big brother got a baby blanket that was crochet
~ A crochet baby blanket has a 'wrong' side, but it's not as obvious as the knit blanket that has a very definite wrong side.
~ The knit blanket is much more lightweight & delicate than a crochet blanket & a crochet blanket will stand up better to a child older than 'newborn'
~ I have a crochet blanket pattern I've made before & I like it a lot
~ BIG plus - I can crochet a LOT faster than I can knit
Having decided to 'go crochet', I made a trip to Joanne's for yarn. I rarely go there (longest trip), but the other stores did not have what I wanted. Fortunately, Joanne's did and not only that, I had a coupon for 50% off one full price item which saved me $6.00. It was a good day.
Got the yarn Sunday afternoon (2/26) and started crocheting that evening - finished Wednesday morning (3/1), ran in yarn tails Thursday morning - all done, except for washing the blanket. It turned out great IMO.
I came up with my own version of a border & I like it.
PATTERN:
Lunar Crossings Square Blanket Free Crochet Pattern
YARN:
Caron Jumbo Ombre, Color - Faded Jeans, 12 oz., 595 yards, $11.99/skein.
PS: I still plan on doing that knit blanket just for the challenge of it!
I have a new hook rug kit that I bought - but have forgotten how to do it, was struggling yesterday - will have to watch a You Tube video. I used to be really good at using the rug hook - I even got the left-handed version (the kit asked).
That’s a cool challenge! Have fun with it!
Does anybody have any wisdom about beading? My daughter is getting married in July, and she wants to add pearl “sleeves” to her wedding gown. I have an idea of the beads, but I don’t make jewelry. I wonder if using fish line would be a good thing to string them with.
I also don’t know whether I should see them on or use tiny clasps. I’ve never done that, but I think I can figure it out. I just have to play with it some first.
Suggestions welcomed.
Very nice...future family heirloom
Absolutely beautiful. I haven’t crocheted in a while - my son bought a kit for me for Christmas for a crocheted bunny - he did one and it turned out GREAT. I’ve always had problems with tension when I crochet - I’ll have to give it another try.
Do you have a bead store anywhere locally?
We had one (that sadly went out of business) - I am a beginning beader and the manager there was always happy to answer my questions and make suggestions - really helped.
It's based on a pattern from the 1860's, originally done on paper (I used fabric). This is the second one, I made one on perforated paper - but it disappeard when the house was renovated. I'll keep an eye on this one.
Other than Joann’s or Michael’s I’m not sure. I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for the idea.
Very pretty!!
Wow..
Disappeared when the house was renovated! Wow!
I am very sorry since it must have been a hard loss. But I am amazed someone would steal homemade artwork. I assume it was stolen.
That is a very cute quilt! And don’t think it wouldn’t win a ribbon at the county fair - I think it would.
I have my grandmother’s handmade quilts - none of it machine stitched. It was on my bed until my husband stepped on it with his work boots to change a lightbulb!
A project like this particular baby blanket would be a great one on which to practice tension. It’s an ‘easy’ pattern, all double crochet & single crochet stitches (you slip stitch a bit to connect rounds). Gauge isn’t critical. If you use ‘ombre’ yarn, the color changes just happen and result in something really attractive.
This designer (Crochet Kim) also has a shawl, poncho and a rectangular blanket in the same Lunar Crossing stitch pattern.
I have a way of holding the yarn that works for me to keep tension - you just have to crochet enough to work out what works for you.
Cute quilt! I love stuff like that. Very comfy.
I’ve had quite a few finishes since the beginning of the year, I have lost my notes on how to post pictures so will try to get that squared away and post them this week.
This is my UFO year - (UnFinished Objects). For the past couple of yrs I have been making memory quits for clients and have put my stuff to the side. I’m in the process of finishing a very large quilt that I began in 2019.
Bought a coverstitch machine last spring and then my husband was riding his bike home from work and was hit by a car (miraculously, he has made a full recovery!) so that sat in the box for almost a year. Yesterday, I successfully hemmed a shawl. Can’t believe how happy that made me. I have several clothing items that just need hemming and then I can wear them.
