It’s a fair question to ask, what might cause the evolution of a zombie apocalypse super-fungus? And if you guessed “global warming,” please give yourself a cookie. “If species that were once geographically separated are forced into closer contact” by global warming, Pasternak warns, “this could favor the passage of viruses and bacteria — and fungi — from one species to another, increasing the number of possible hosts.”

Why on earth would anything, fungal, viral, bacterial develop where it infects EVERYTHING and kills the host entirely?
Cordyceps, for instance, have colonies where reproduction is done through a single female laying tons of eggs. But this race- ending infection? It wouldn’t have an opportunity to reproduce.
Complete fantasy. As it was written. These people need to let it be.

I would love a cookie, but I am on a diet.
The whole idea that global warming would force species in to closer contact is silly.
Global warming would more likely make more of the planet habitable and open more of the planet habitation. Make growing seasons longer and support more life.

Should be more concerned about something similar to Mad Cow or Chronic Wasting Disease.
Both of these turn the brain into a sponge.
I could picture this from “lab grown” synthetic “meats”.

denialist political discourse... If you run into someone who actually thinks these words have a precise meaning, avoid at all costs. The fungus has infected her brain.

I thought Toxoplasma gondii, the cat brain parasite, was supposed to turn us all into crazy cat people by now.

“Global warming?” That’s an intentional distraction. The problem is the international trade and tourism regime. Bugs that kill can travel fast and far during incubation periods. Then they can mutate repeatedly to kill large numbers of people again and again.
