Unless this survey was written by a bunch of U-M grads, there's no way that the Berkley of the Midwest is the best place in the country to live.
Yes, I have heard of these programs. Kind of like a homesteading agreement. I am not sure if it is the form of real estate tax credits or how it works.
I think they really want USA and Brits to move there and put some money in the economy.
You’d love the interior of Alaska then!
I left the Triangle Park area in ‘88....thank goodness. Now I’m in the mtns where good caring people are my neighbors and I’m free! Garden, animals, God’s spirit!!
I give thanks every day
My retirement is going to be selling the 8 1/3 acres land, the 2500 sq ft 4 bed 2 1/2 bath house and buying a 40-50’ boat and only coming into port to get gas, food, booze and women.
Look into Sicily
My friend in Dallas, TX asked why I live in Iowa. I asked him if he had Orkin on speed dial, which he did. I told him I have never called Orkin.
He then showed me a picture of a scorpion on his living room carpet. I’ll take a little snow and some cold weather.
Parts of Florida are nice..
Business Insider, commie rag, picks leftist sumphole as best city in America.
Fingerle Lumber. Right behind the Fleetwood Diner. Did you know Mark Russell?
I dealt with Mark Fingerle and his dad prior to him.
ahahaha! You can put a saddle on the palmetto bugs/tree roach/waterbug/Bombay canary/American cockroach.
I hate raking leaves because those critters fly and they love damp piles of leaves.
Snakes and spiders don’t bother me but the huge flying roaches do. *shrug*
Painful potential with scorpions but they don’t bother me like huge flying roaches gads!
I would rather deal with the heat than the cold, I only like snow for a day or two and shorter growing seasons would send me ‘round the bend, winter depresses me.
Having fewer bugs would be nice and Iowa seems to be more conservative than my Texas, plus it’s not on the Southern border. T
They could resolve the border problem but they won’t.
Mark Russell was a friend of mine who worked at Fingerle in the early 1980s.
I understand that Texas may be lower than where they are but that doesn’t make Texas taxes low, that’s my point.
Our property taxes keep skyrocketing.
I’m of the camp that believes we can’t continue to cheerlead and brag about our state, without facing the major issues we are developing that bears discussion.
It’s going to take more than a can of paint to pretty it up.
Ostrich method kills.
We took a hard look at retiring to Texas (West Texas actually).
The property taxes were a big issue for us—particularly the way they were calculated and how they might be impacted by future illegal immigration.
It is always hard to have a crystal ball—but the risk of skyrocketing property taxes in the medium term scared us off...
Cuba—absolutely...except for language and culture, would beat Hawaii! Mountains and seashore. Stretches as far apart as Chicago to NYC. Only an hour-and-a-half drive, if there was a bridge to get there.
Maybe someday...
How could it be that Buffalo,NY isn’t the best place live...with Oakland as #2???
Property can be nearly free, food is super cheap (fresh and healthy) and great weather. A great quality of life, IMO.
Holy crap-has that changed! It was insanely crowded and without the infrastructure to accommodate.
I wouldn't come here now. It's becoming a hellscape.
