Some things are worth repeating, and this is one of those things. Last week I wrote a column about the troubling issue of fires at our food processing facilities. I learned about a document titled Food and Agriculture Systems Criticality Assessment Tool (FASCAT).
The document identified food and agricultural systems that were deemed critical to the U.S. Unfortunately, the document disappeared in 2019 and appears to be being used nefariously against us.
On Saturday there was yet another fire. This time at the Hillandale Farm located in Bozrah, Connecticut. According to Hendrix Genetics, the farm is the third largest egg producer in the country.
The fire broke out around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in a 100 foot by 400 foot 2 story “coop.” 21 fire departments responded to the blaze, which took eight hours to extinguish.
The numbers haven’t been confirmed, but it is estimated that approximately 100,000 chickens may have been killed.

Over the last several years there has been a large outbreak of fires at food production facilities. At the time, I remember thinking that it seemed very suspicious, based on the number of incidents alone. The news cycle being what it is today though, any information about the fires flamed out quickly and seemed to disappear in a puff of smoke.

It was reported briefly locally, but sources like CNN didn't even bother to mention it.

Yes. The young man was visibly rattled. Was going on about eggs laying eggs. His witness was critical, however. When he stopped using Purina chicken food his chickens began paying eggs.

A chicken coop has bedding for the chickens, I think, unless they are all caged chickens. (not sure) IF IT DOES IT IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE, IF IT DOESN’T THEN WHAT IS THER TO BURN?
But,... doesn’t existing fire code in commercial buildings require a sprinkler system?
Why are all these fire preventions systems FAILING TO PREVENT FIRES?
There is no way that between 90 and 150 fires at food processing plants throughout America, IN ONE YEAR (2022), could possibly be an accident/coincidence!!
I need to get myself some of those self replicating eggs.

You can fit 100k chickens in a 400 by 100 foot 2 story coop? That sounds horrible.
