'Lovely lad' -- Tributes pour in for Kildare man who died in Canada

Tributes have poured in for a young Kildare man who died suddenly while living in Toronto, Canada.

Jeremy Burke, originally from Kilcullen in Co Kildare, died 'suddenly but peacefully' while at his girlfriend's side in the Canadian city. Mr Burke's death notice reads that he's 'deeply regretted' by his family and friends, with people remembering him as 'such a lovely lad.'

Pic: GoFundMe 'Louise and family there are no words of comfort I can offer my only hope is that beautiful memories of your beloved Jeremy will give you strength at this terrible time,' one person wrote. 'Thinking of you all.'

'Shocked and saddened to hear of Jeremy’s passing,' another added. 'Many happy memories with Jeremy, such a lovely lad. My sincere condolences to Gerry, Louise, Edie, William and all of the Burke/Kelly family. May Jeremy rest in peace.'

Mr Burke's family have been in contact with the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust to help bring him back to Ireland, and following their help, a GoFundMe has been started to raise funds for the charity and their tireless efforts -- which has since raised over €20,000.

'The family are in awe of the support they are receiving from all around the world. Thankfully during the darkest period, there is light in the form of The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

'From the moment Louise [Mr Burke's mother] reached out, Conor has been by her and Rita's side and has organised every inch of the process to the smallest of details.

'Many people are now asking how they can help the family and the answer is simple If anyone would like to contribute to this wonderful charity in honour of our beautiful Jeremy we would be forever grateful.'

'Unfortunately not a week goes by that these amazing people don’t get a call to bring a loved one back home to their beloved Ireland from every corner of the globe. Without them, we as a family would have the added trauma and burden of trying to get Jeremy home without any support or assistance.

'The Canadian police department was overwhelmed by this organisation and thought only the Irish would think of such a charitable thing. We will be forever indebted to this cause. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the charity. Thank you in advance and thank you again for the kind words and offers of help. The Burke/Kelly families.'
