The US Congress has a habit of regularly increasing its spending, borrowing money, and increasing taxes. Their pace of increases is regularly sucking away so much freedom and hope away from the American people. However, their agenda of sucking away to enrich themselves is on hold right now. The House still haven't elected a Speaker. How long will this hold last? If it lasts very long then the American people may have some breathing room to actually have freedom and hope in their lives.

Absurdly, they get to vote on their own raises. That should be a disqualification for legislating tax law.

Unfortunately, you are correct. And what’s really sad is that the total number of Americans who are getting handouts from the government that exceeds what they pay in personal income taxes is greater than vice versa :( That’s a big part of why the National Debt is ballooning so much.
