Music Video for My Mother - Jane Olivor
YouTube ^ | Dec 24, 2022 | Mary Van Deusen

Part of my ongoing experiment in how to pass family history on to a younger generation that won't ask the questions until their sources are gone, and seem not that fond of reading. Requires a cheap video editing program, an editing party with appropriate beverages, lots of photos, and a techie young relative.

TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Music/Entertainment
KEYWORDS: genealogy; mother; musicvideo; snapshots
I still miss her desperately.

I love Jane Oliver.. I have three of her albums on vinyl. This song makes me think of my late father...

She’s one of my absolutely favorite singers. Those are treasures!

The song was written for her father, but I took poetic license for mother.

I think of all these precious people we’ve lost and so much want them celebrated and remembered. The question is always how do you present the information so that it’s almost painless to receive. What form makes information more likely to be passed down so that the people we love won’t be forgotten.

I did fan video workshops when I was younger. If I were still doing it, I’d do genealogy video workshops.

Love makes everyone beautiful. She was as good inside. I can remember walking with dates and the boy would be up with mother talking while I trailed behind. She was fascinating without ever trying to be. I’ve always seen myself as a pale imitation of her.

Amazing voice. With Johnny Mathis, she performed one of the greatest duets of all time. I remember them doing it at the Oscars back in the 1970s. It was jaw-dropping. I still have the original on vinyl.

That deserves a sincere WOW! Didn’t learn about her until the 80’s.
