Howard Fast was a Communist Party activist that hated Reagan and just made up the claim as one of his anti-Reagan attacks.
Reagan biographer Morris interviewed the Reagan critic, Fast.
“When Morris asked the former president if he had tried to join the party, Reagan denied it.
“Why no. Good Lord, no,” he replied.”
