Hurry! Call the police and tell them there’s been an earthquake, like everyone else out there does (at least when I lived in California).
I guess, for some reason, police stations don’t get affected by earthquakes.
I knew it was a midwestern state. I did mix up Fernwood and Ferndale. I never got the absurdity of the name, “Fernwood” before.
The one time I thought I was experiencing an earthquake, it never even occurred to me to call someone. That was the right decision, but for a very surprising, very bad reason: it turned out to be the nearby Pentagon being slammed by a jetliner. Shook the whole house.
The previous time I thought there was an earthquake, I looked outside and saw a mushroom cloud rising over my neighborhood!!! It was right after ABC showed “the Day After,” about a nuclear holocaust. I didn’t completely freak because I guess in the back of my head I was smart enough to realize there wasn’t a flash. Turns out a nearby fireworks factory exploded. Never saw the size of the explosion reported, or listed in any list of largest man-made, non-nuclear explosions, but it must’ve been a sizeable portion of a kiloton, if not several.

Agree with your decision, as it’s likely that the police found out about the ‘event’ via other means.
