Imagine if the NFL had a limit on substitutions like real football. The ambulances would be busy.
Amazing that Argentina could win the World Cup without any racial, ethnic, or gender diversity on the team.
Or maybe that is precisely why they won.
I have played in a match that went into extra time. By the end I could barely move. Playing more overtime would only determine which team had the most long distance runners.
As for those who do not like the game, perhaps you never tried it? If you have, then you knnow how difficult it is to move the ball like they do. I found this WC enthralling and I am over 70.
In Columbus, there are an awful lot of Hispanics that attend the games. That is the only franchise I’m familiar with.
It was a great match.
Argentina dominated for about 70 minutes and France had the breakout 2-goals within 2 minutes.

Not every sport is for every person. The rest of the planet enjoys soccer. Americans play it when very young and then most don’t follow it as they get older.
I enjoy all sports and follow soccer only when it is World Cup time. I wish our United States team were more competitive.
Good for all to run and stay active. Kids play too many videogames and are inside too much.
Soccer is also a sport where white kids can be competitive. Basketball is usually 90%+ black. All the defensive players these days on defense are black. Of the 22 starters on NFL teams, maybe 5 or so are white and usually offensive linemen, tight ends, and half the QBs in the league.
If you’re a kid watching pros to one day play the sport, soccer, tennis, and golf seem the best bets.
If you could be truly great in one sport? Golf. You can play it your entire life. You’re famous to those few that follow the sport, but not getting mobbed constantly as it is a niche game. That niche is a very wealthy demographic so great for advertising money. You aren’t risking brain injury or your life. You don’t age out at 35. No other sport checks all the boxes.
Strange people show up to bash a game they really don’t understand.
I can usually find something to appreciate in very sport.
Even in hockey they play in lines. Several rest while the others are skating. I think there’s a lot of athleticism in soccer. I do wish they wouldn’t flop or embellish as often as they do. It is exhausting what they do, though.
In this World Cup, Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal would only be a handball penalty, due to replay.
I’ve seen them all: Pele live, Maradona and Ronaldo on TV and Messi in the last 15 years. While all others are undoubtedly greats, Messi simply isn’t human, he shouldn’t be allowed to compete with mere mortals…. Today he’s made just one mistake during 120 min of play, lost the ball to Upamekano in the middle of the field. Dragged his relatively average team to the WC pedestal after their disastrous loss in the first group game…

The only time I ever saw Pele “play” was in the movie Victory with Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine.
At least there’s, strategy and scoring. But I have given up on the NBA...
I don’t really want to trash it. I was on the varsity soccer team at U of Washington. Loved playing it but it’s so boring to watch.
It feels like this big deal World Cup kind of gets thrown in your face and I feel like saying, fugeddabouddit.
I was asking today, don’t these guys practice active shooting to the HUGE goal? How can they be so far off?
I’m sorry, I’m sure it’s pretty hard to be accurate with your foot/leg, but half the time they don’t need goalies because the players shoot so far off.
Seems to me not much practice goes into actively shooting?

Baseball is allowed to go on too long. They should time when these discussions on the mound happen, etc.
Our “football” is very strategic and timed (commercials on TV turn it into 3-hour tour), and still allows “consummation” as in scoring.
Basketball and hockey pretty much continuous action, though hockey still low scoring while BB is high.
I feel like what I’m looking at in soccer is children playing in the park. There is a lot of mulling around and running back and forth but not much achievement. Like they don’t know what the game is and make it up just to have fun.
My husband feels the reason soccer is so popular, worldwide AND in US children’s level, is it is so cheap.
All they need is a ball.
No special equipment. Even field hockey nd lacrosse need more equipment.
Sometimes that’s how I feel about baseball.
It can be very boring.
You’d rather PLAY than watch.
Although, I hated being placed on outfield in school. Boring. My mom said the same thing. (She loves our football, BTW)
Baseball has incredible strategy between pitches. Tony La Russa famously used to go through a mental checklist between each pitch.
If you have someone like John Smoltz like during the 2022 World Series explaining the pitching issues between each pitch, it’s a lot of fun.
Again, soccer is fun to play (I played on the U of W varsity squad) but painful to watch.
I would say they practice shooting at the goal continually every day, remember the ball is moving a lot of the time, they are under defensive pressure and ball is kicked at different angles while running and dribbling the ball with their feet
