There have been many manias. The “book” did not present it in its true form. It wasn’t generally about single bulbs—but rather entire strains of the flower. There are one-off stories about single plants, but that was not the norm.
There have been other schemes through the years.

My wife and I are cleaning our attic. We came across a big plastic storage bin filled with our daughter’s beanie babies. I can’t wait for our grandkids to open that box the next time they are over.
They were cute little things—but the “mania” around them was stupid.
