McD’s has been rolling out the McRib and then taking it away since I was a kid. For some reason I remember them tasting a lot better when I was a kid than they do now - nostalgia is the ultimate secret sauce.

Do they still make the McRib Shake?

The best thing McDonalds ever made (in my opinion) was their “steak” sandwich, which was a chopped steak patty on a medium-soft roll with raw onions and steak sauce. I guess it wasn’t too popular, because they discontinued it after a short while.

My guess is that it’s more expensive to make than the price they charge, and it’s just to get people trying McDonald’s.

Yes, same. I remember it being tasty, but the last one I had literally tasted like cardboard.

"...nostalgia is the ultimate secret sauce."

Indeed it is. I wrestled in junior high school and high school. When I was 13 years old in the early 80s, I like many competitive wrestlers, pretty much starved myself to maintain a lower weight class. From October through December I ate minimally struggling to stay in the 105 lb. bracket.

After our last match in December, before Christmas break when I would have a couple weeks off, my dad took me to McDonald's. This was 1982 and the McRib was new on the market in western PA. At that point, I was hungry enough to eat a skunk's ass, so of course that McRib was about the best thing I ever ate...but above and beyond that, as I sat there with my dad the week before Christmas, it was the first time my father and I had a conversation, not so much as father to son, but man to man. Every year, when the McRib rolls out, I get to relive that moment, which is particularly poignant now, as my dad passed away in 2021.
