When Eric Marienthal only gets one short solo in the Buddy Rich Big Band, for the memorial concert feat. Steve Gadd, he goes all in! Even Steve Marcus is impressed while he goes up into the altissimo like a bad cat! The tune is called "Keep The Customer Satisfied". Video

53 second video, and probably the only time I've seen Steve Marcus that impressed.
Hopefully take y'all's minds off other things for a minute. 8~)

And I put Steve Gadd WAY above Neil Peart on my list of drummers. I know, Blasphemy!

Steve Gadd and Jeff Porcaro. The best.
Maximum Gadd: Aja
Maximum Porcaro: Hanky Panky
(intro lasts 24 seconds, then the action starts)>
Bass line in Hanky Panky is Guy Pratt.

Thank you.
I will be out of control for a while with this.
Apologies before it happens...

This is my favourite Steve Gadd piece. Snare/bass roll? Damn.
Once upon a time, I had the opportunity to purchase Joe Farrel's gold plated Mark VI tenor, just couldn't quite get the money.

Only on Free Republic can a post about a saxophone solo devolve into a discussion about drummers.

I have fond memories of seeing Buddy Rich performing live in a small club in Sioux Falls, SD. Sad to say it was 50 years ago. What a drummer.
To: real saxophonist
Only on FR would anyone suggest that any drummer born of a woman was better than Neil Peart.
To: AlbertWang
Now that’s just silly, because Neil Peart himself said Buddy Rich was better than Neil Peart. 8~)
