Their mother was also injured in the attack north of Memphis around 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The children who were attacked, a 2-year-old girl, and a 5-month-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene, it said.
The sheriff’s office said Thursday that the condition of the children’s mother has been upgraded, and that she is now stable. Officials earlier described her as being in critical condition.
The two pit bulls responsible were euthanized Thursday by Memphis Animal Services, the sheriff’s office tweeted.

Pit bulls are always described as perfectly peaceful and friendly, totally safe around kids, and ideal family pets.
That is until they go crazy and attack for no apparent reason.
I heard about a recent incident when a mixed breed (half pit bull) went after a baby in a stroller, and ripped off part of the child’s face. This was, I believe, at a yard sale. I heard this from a witness who saw it happen.
I don’t know all the details, and I didn’t pursue it further, partly because I was intruding on someone else’s conversation. I don’t know if the baby survived.
The owner of the dog must be facing one hell of a lawsuit and hopefully criminal charges.
Time after time you see people defending these dogs after more kids are mauled to death. It’s depressing how obtuse some people can be. I would never own one period, but you’ve got to be a special kind of stupid to have them in the house with your young children. I grew up on a farm in Mississippi. Dogs that showed dangerous tendencies quickly got a bullet between the eyes, there was no tolerance for that. The safety of your children always takes precedence over an animal. Nowadays people seem to enjoy it when their dog shows aggression towards a person and view it as a source of pride. This is the inevitable result of that stupidity.
I saw one turn after 7 years in a loving home. Sudden jihad syndrome? I don’t know. This breed just seems to do that for some reason.

Tennessee is notorious for dreadful pet owners, especially owners of dogs, relating to abuse and neglect. A few years ago the TBI was officially tasked with regulating and monitoring pets and their owners. At least that was reported.
So far, it seems like nothing has changed. We’re not “dog people”, but have fed and watered neighbors’ tied-up dogs left outside with empty bowls. Owners just sit inside and watch us. Think “Deliverance”.
We’ve rescued cats whose owners just dumped them off in our remote area.
Bump that, even though I am a cat person.

It has happened with huskies more than a few times. Sweet family dogs ... until they weren’t. Such beautiful dogs, too.

I would’ve bought that they’re normal middle class until I saw “Harley”. Nothing wrong with Harleys but that, added to pit bulls, conjures up not-normal middle class. I’m not saying that’s fair or right, just that in my mind it gives a different dimension.
Yeah, I agree. The breeding over generations had its purpose and it wasn’t bred for family protection. Not the dogs’ fault. People are funny - calling a 99 pound pit bull Mimi. That name is more suggestive of a toy poodle.
