Their mother was also injured in the attack north of Memphis around 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The children who were attacked, a 2-year-old girl, and a 5-month-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene, it said.
The sheriff’s office said Thursday that the condition of the children’s mother has been upgraded, and that she is now stable. Officials earlier described her as being in critical condition.
The two pit bulls responsible were euthanized Thursday by Memphis Animal Services, the sheriff’s office tweeted.

A white family. Maybe living as close to Memphis as they did they felt a need for pit bills.
Where I live, I have a yard fence around the house, then another fence outside that one so the dogs can run almost clear around the house. I do NOT have pit bulls but a big old hound.
My wife’s nephew had beautiful dogs in a pen in his yard. Beautiful animals that everyone admired and kids petted.
One day a news man interviewed him and found the dogs were actually a wolf mix. Suddenly the neighbors went into a panic and he had to get rid of them.
“And PB’s are the most populous breed in the US.”
And many, many are owned by low IQ rednecks and blacks who like the having the toughest dog because it’s a macho thing. The breeding of them ought to be outlawed and let them go extinct. You can still have your pit bull, but not a replacement when it passes away.
No surprise that pit pulls top the list.

Pits are far and away the breed most responsible for deaths and maulings.
Yep, even a house cat could go schizo. But they don’t drag babies by the skull and bite their heads off.
And stuff the garbage about guns. My guns aren’t going to get up and go randomly shooting people. They are inanimate objects genius. Pits can and do just go berserk. The can act on their own initiative.
So you do have problems with pit owners being held accountable for their animals.

Once again, it is Pit-bulls. Don’t tell me it is the owner. Evidence shows otherwise. These dogs have been bred to kill. It’s in their DNA, much like a wolf going after prey or anything they think is threatening to them.
After all the stories of these dogs killing children, why do parents even take the chance that their “loving, family pit-bull” might turn on their child and kill them. With a small infant, death is almost assured. Why risk it? Either have a dog such as this, or a child. Make your choice. The two do not mix.

I believe that. I grew up in a town where stray dogs would form a pack and attack smaller dogs and sometimes people. It was a big problem for many years. Once, an out-of-towner told me he'd witnessed something strange happen in my town. He said he was driving through it when, suddenly, the police pulled up, stepped out of their vehicles, and started shooting dogs in the street. I said, "You mean that doesn't happen where you live?" Left on their own, dogs will form a pack and attack. I thought these packs were a common problem, but apparently not everywhere.
It seems that things have changed a bit. I lived there during the ‘70s and ‘80s. Across the driveway from my office was a track where sled dogs were trained. The owners really babied them — carried them around and such.
Of course, I don’t know what goes on when they’re back home, and I have heard that they cull them at times. I don’t like to think about that.
What I have seen is that PB’s reflect their owners

My sister was bit by her Irish Setter.
Still do not know why and it only happened once.
An honest search would turn up MANY instances of other breeds attacking people with some fatal.
Irrational haters just have to hate, I’m done responding to such.
Pit bull owners never have a problem until the day they have a "problem", meaning a child or woman mauled or dead. It's an inbred vulnerability of the breed that few owners have the discipline to constrain with relentless training, nutritional support, leashing, caging and fencing.
On some Indian Reservations in western Canada, once per year there’s a day when you keep your dog in the house or on a chain.
Otherwise, it’s shot like a coyote. That prevents feral packs from forming.

That sounds like it would solve the problem.
You have ONE counterexample -- a personal anecdote which cannot be verified -- and which does not even allege hospitalization or death; and somehow this counteracts all verified cases of hospitalizations and deaths due to pit bulls.
I wonder if your Pit Bull likes peanut butter at 11:00 PM too.
