London (AFP) – Entrants in the mass-participation event at next year's London Marathon will be offered a non-binary gender option.
Organisers said it was part of a drive to make the race the "most diverse, equitable and inclusive marathon in the world".
Three gender options -- male, female and non-binary -- will be offered to all participants registering for the mass participation element of the event.
The Boston Marathon announced a similar change this week.

This still doesn’t prevent trans women running as (and pretending to be) real women.
As violent crime rates surge I’m happy to see municipalities are still focusing on the really important stuff.

It seems that the organizers of these events, are eager to bend over backwards to prove that they are liberal, with all this “LGBT” and “gender identity” business.
I wonder how many will register in the non binary category, so as to have less competition for the award?
So there will be three winners, men’s division, women’s division, and non binary division???

Well, the so-called "non binary division" option will not be available to the elite runners (i.e., the professional runners, men and women, who will be seriously contesting the race), so, as a practical matter, no.
In any event, what this really amounts to for the amateur runners is two divisions for men and one for women.
When I ran the 1983 Boston the male under-40 qualifying time was 2:50.00. Now it’s 3 hours.
Can I enter as a “non-runner” and just drive?
Why differentiate between genders? Just let everyone who qualifies participate and May the best person win! FULL STOP.
Boston does too this year. And the qualifying times are the women’s times. For people that can’t quite make the grade I guess. I wonder how many men will be pushed out because of it.
