Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies found the woman on the ground when they arrived at the scene in Interlachen Lake Estates on Sunday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said in a Facebook post. They also found the dogs inside a fence at a nearby home.
A nearby resident told deputies they heard the woman screaming for help and saw five dogs attacking her. Several neighbors tried pulling the dogs off the woman and one shot a gun into the air to scare the dogs away, the report said.
The Putnam County Animal Control Unit has taken custody of the dogs.
Authorities said that an investigation into the attack is ongoing and the owners of the dogs have been cooperative thus far.

“Bulldog mixes”.
LOL.
Always playing word games, just like libs, these PBT nuts.
Bulldogs are part of PBT blood, but not the actual type long since.
Thanks for the other sources. I can sort of make out the pix and indeed they look for sure 2 of them like PBT types, possibly the 3rd does too.
Sounds like we have an epidemic of dog violence. We need the CDC to declare a public health crisis.
I had a pack of seven dogs surround me and my ( leashed) dog in a local national recreation area. A little ankle-biter and two standard poodles came in close enough to make contact with my dog. The lab and a midsize dog hung back a little. Two pits hung back quite a ways.
” Once there are that many dogs, pack mentality is pretty powerful.”
True. I had 7 Lhasa Apsos. When an intruder (mailMAN, UPS driver, etc.) would pull in our driveway, All 7 (remember, Lhasa Apsos) would run/charge to attack the intruder.
They would always split into two groups, just like I’ve seen wolves do on NGO videos.
At that moment they forget they are fluffy, small, shi shi foo foo dogs and become a wolf pack.
No offense, but I don’t see your point. Most of “old” Florida, as I like to call it, is gone or heading out the door. There are pockets, to be sure, but a lot of it has been very built up since I was a kid.
I long for the days of “Dreamville” sometimes.
***Like it was Dreamville
A long time ago
A million miles away
All the trees were green
In Dreamville, in Dreamville
Yeah it was Dreamville
A long time ago
Light years from here
And the air smelled good
In Dreamville, in Dreamville***
Poor woman. I hope the owner is charged & sued too.
I ran with a previous comment on pit bulls. However, the point still stands with any vicious dog, regardless of breed. But when more information comes out, you know the odds are that they will be pit bulls.
The news video said “bulldog mix.” Euphemism for street-bred pit bulls.
“...i bet the other carriers are arming up...”
Fat chance. Filthy government makes it illegal to have firearms even in the PO parking lots.
No punishment will restore the victim to life, but maybe severe consequences could cause fewer people to harbor those lovable killers.
They're going to put down those dogs, thank God. Now put down the owner of those dogs at the same time. Give him the needle too, a double dose. They all should have been put down a long time ago. People who own dogs like that are evil mental cases.
Poor woman was just doing her job. She was real asset to the community, a lovely lady, from all accounts.
Now that we've seen the pictures and you have at least partially admitted that these are pits, maybe you can stop acting like a Democrat, progressive liberal who keeps shutting off common sense. (See, two can play the insult game.) When there is a fatal dog attack, it is rare when the culprit is NOT a pit or pit-mix.
LOL. Can't be. The woman wasn't slobbered to death.
Yep. You get a few friendly house dogs together and they can revert to pack behavior. I’ve seen it. They don’t have to be aggressive breeds
Yeah, kind of a useless strategy if you are driving a truck with no doors.
“No offense, but I don’t see your point. Most of “old” Florida, as I like to call it, is gone or heading out the door. There are pockets, to be sure, but a lot of it has been very built up since I was a kid.”
My point is that your point is incorrect. Most of Florida is not “built-up”.
Dog attacks are a serious problem for everyone working in this field. Mail carriers in my family have been bitten often, and one was seriously hurt in an attack by dogs that had attacked another delivery worker. The owner has never been penalized, and the dogs continue to live.
The problem would be solved if dogs were put down the first time they bite a mail carrier, and if the owner were held responsible for medical bills, etc.
Even better, if a mail carrier merely feels threatened by a dog, all mail should be stopped to that address. The owner should have to pick up his own mail at the P.O.
Too bad she didn’t have a firearm. RIP.
Always carry your dog spray.
I have great dogs on my route but I have some bad ones too. There’s one that waits for me to get out of the truck. So we’ve gotten to the point where I open and slam my door shut. Then the dog comes running. I’ve used the spray once and also on a rooster that wouldn’t leave me alone. The rooster learned his lesson.
I’d like to know if this mail carrier is one of the USPS employees who was complicit in helping to steal the election in 2020. If I can learn that, I can decide on my level of sympathy.
You think that statement was an insult? I certainly didn’t mean it so, but lately I have seen far too many assumptions about stories on FR.
And I am no lover of PBTs. Just had to deal with a fool vet tech the other day buying cat food - wanted a cat again but won’t with her “rescued” fighting PBT (along with GS and other dog). PBTs are her “favorite” because, get this, “they are misunderstood”.
Not because she really loves this or that about them, but SHE FEELS SORRY FOR THEM - kind of like BLM supporters.
It’s everything I can do to bite my tongue. She might poison my cat if I said something realistic (and apparently insulting) about PBTs.
