What a delight to read!

As it happens, we have thunder storms rolling in as I type. I actually set the clock so I could be up to watch them. I knew they were coming through after midnight, and I didn’t want to chance sleeping through them.

There is nothing like a cleansing, refreshing, invigorating downpour.

When my kids were growing up, we lived on a nice country property with ditches across the front. When the heavens opened up, it would soak the lawn and fill those ditches fast (they were about 2 1/2 feet deep). The kids would run across the lawn a bit, then dive, then it would be like a slip and slide and into the ditches they’d go lol. Such fun to watch the innocent delight of soaking wet kids splashing around in the ditches.

Thank you for posting your endearing rain story at just the right time!

I remember when folks were afraid to get a few drops of acid rain on them.

You might raise your hammock a few feet to avoid the flood. πŸ˜‰

What a lovely yard and delightful essay!

When I was a kid, we used to ride our bikes in the rain. So much fun. The ditches would fill and we splashed through them. The community pool was a place we spent a lot of time in too. I loved to be swimming when the rain started and would stay until finally ordered by the lifeguard to get out.

Once, driving from New Mexico to Missouri there was driving rain. We could hardly see in front of us. All our luggage was on the rack on the roof of the car and one of the bags fell off out into the middle of the freeway. My sister and I volunteered to retrieve it and sat soaking wet with the suitcase on our laps until we reached a hotel. All of us kids were singing that old Sprite commercial, “Feel the rain on your face, Sprite is a natural taste.”

A great memory that we often recall when we’re together.

We get very little rain in Las Vegas. Last week I had my 11 month old grandson for the afternoon when there was a light rain. I took him out on the patio and we held out our hands to feel the drops as I explained this is rain. He loved it and kept blinking his eyes as the drops hit his face.

Thank you for sending me down memory lane for a bit.

When I was a kid working on the family farm during planting season, the only time off I would get was when we were "rained out", rendering the ground unfit to prepare for planting.

When I saw a rain cloud in the distance, while sitting in the truck, I would turn on the windshield wipers in hopes that it would summon that cloud, so that I could get off early and hang out with my buds.

Hello, I live 50 miles north of the San-Fran-Freak-O, of the north, a.k.a. Seattle, a.k.a., commie central.

"This is the Pacific Northwest, and rain, along with the forests that grow because of the rain, is what it is famous for."

And those dam Alder Trees. They may be a great hardwood for fire-wood / furniture making, but don't compete with the beauty of Redwood Cedar & Maple & Fir trees. In my humble opinion.

here in eastern Washington, we normally are dry thru out summer ...when its bad, our last good rain is in May and another good rain doesn't come until sept...sometimes Oct...

but we had some rain on July 4th....none since....and its been very hot....

our house can stay pretty cool IF the night time temps get down like there supposed to into the 50's .....we have one room air conditioner and we use it sporadically during the day....

I am ready for a cool down....

You have the gift of writing. The words were forming pictures and scenes in my mind as your story unfolded. I could envision your little piece here as a chapter in a book of short stories or such. Or some regional magazine publication. I think it’s that good.

Florida beckons. We get plenty of rain here in the summer, with seasonal dry spells and a dash of cold in the winter to remind you of New Hampshire β€” plus a hurricane every year or two to recall your boyhood in the monsoonal Philippines.

I love the rain as well and your story made me feel as if I were in that lovely warm summer rain enjoying it along with you.

My grandmother had a trellis with grapes across it in a thick foliage. Concord grapes, it was NY and we would reach up and grab one, they were so sweet and plump and lush.

We had a light rain falling in the early hours of night and I was up. It was about 2:30 am. I went outside and put my hands up to the sky and felt the light patter.

But then there was the sound of thunder and a flash of lightning and I had to scurry in quick as a rabbit.

A lovely few minutes :)

At 5:10 am your pictures are returning an error 404 ... were they anti-government subversive propaganda?

Anyway in S Texas in July it was over 100 every day except one. August has been a bit cooler but rain is sparse. The only green part of the lawn is where the septic system laterals run.

Great essay. A few times a year I walk out into the hard rain. To rake neighbor’s leaves down stream towards the sewer. The hard rain helps me with leaf cleanup. I often mow this into my lawn. I will copy you and go out there just to be soaked.

It is all God’s blessed rain. There are hundreds of times in the Bible where the Hebrews are begging God for an inundation.

Here, just northeast of Harrisburg PA, we haven’t had a good rain in so long that I can’t remember when.

We might get some rain in the next few days but I will believe it when I see it.

I work outside. Suffice it to say there is no novelty for me in being out in the rain.

Hard to guess what the weather will do.... The climate changes and has for billions of years.

We’ve had a few sunny days out of 3 weeks of rain every damn day.
