There were two possible credible explanations at the time:

—Terrorist attack

—Horrible US Navy accident

In either case .gov chose the lie, coverup, intimidate, harass and name-call witnesses approach.

Since no terrorist group claimed credit I tended to lean towards the “horrible accident” explanation.

Accidents are embarrassing for sure—but imho it would have been the wiser course to come clean.

I could never understand Rush’s blind faith in Kallstrom, especially once he started claiming that the FBI should be looking at white supremacist militias for the DC sniper.
