Firefighters are battling a brush fire they believe started at a homeless encampment in southern California.
Footage of the blaze shows large clouds of smoke billowing alongside a busy Los Angeles County freeway Thursday evening.
Although dramatic looking, the fire, which spanned approximately four acres, wasn't a threat to any structures. However, it did shutdown Interstates 605 and 105, causing major traffic jams.
The fire comes as temperatures are on the rise in LA, with some areas forecast to reach triple-digit heat this weekend.
California is also in the peak of its wildfire season, which meteorologists say has grown longer over the years due to dry conditions and above normal temperatures caused by climate change.
Firefighters believe Thursday's inferno broke out in Norwalk along the San Gabriel River, where the two freeways merge, around 6pm local time.
Initial reports indicated the blaze started on the side of the interstate at a possible homeless encampment, county dispatchers told The Los Angeles Times.
At least six fire engines responded to the blaze, which had grown to about four acres by 6.48pm. Crews were seen spraying water on the fire.
Firefighters were met 'tough' challenges as they tried to get what on the blaze because of its roadside location, CBS Los Angeles reported. Officials were essentially limited to the water supply on the trucks.
The scene was still active at 8pm, but the fire was holding, dispatch said. Fumes from the smoke could be smelled as far as nearby Fullerton, La Mirada and Brea.
California Highway Patrol issued an alert at 8.11pm informing residents that several parts of the interstate would be closed for at least two hours. It is unclear if the roads have since reopened.

“California is also in the peak of its wildfire season, which meteorologists say has grown longer over the years due to dry conditions and above normal temperatures caused by climate change.”
Made sure to include the propaganda.
EVEN IF “climate change” were a thing, fire cares not a whit whether it’s 85F or 103F out; seeing as brush won’t ignite below about 450F, a few degrees difference in air temperature isn’t significant to the efficacy of a source of ignition.
Gee.....I never saw that coming.
SMH
Hey Gavin, bus ‘em to New York.
Gee a fire and major traffic jam, can’t they arrest these homeless for causing more Global Climate Change without the required Carbon Offset? And of course the California Water Police will ticket them for the water use 🤣
That’s not nice. New York is a LOT closer to my backyard than California.
I call BS.
Most meteorologists I have ever talked to don't adhere to the climate change crap.
The wildfires are worse because of regulatory mismanagement of forest and not clearing underbrush.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been more.

“It ain’t just the brush that will burn!”
It is all of the flammable crap/litter around these losers in these so called camps.
In Northern California, these so called Homeless camps are ignored until the fire season begins. Fires are often started in the camps by the so called homeless.
They become really dangerous when the unwanted camp fires spread to the brush and dry plants around the camps.
States and localities, and private transportation companies very often do a lousy job of securing the safety of infrastructrue and the land surrounding it that is under their control.
Letting the homeless camp out on dry grass lands adjacent to major highways in dorught striken California, what could possibly go wrong?
I remember a case back east in NY state where a private company was allowed to use space under a train viaduct/overpass, and among what they stored there were flammable materials that did indeed become fuel for a fire that (a) harmed the overpass, (b) temporarily closed the train lines on using that overpass for a couple million customers.
There are tons of examples out there if anyone wants to go searching.
