Focus on the waterfront. There are a couple hotels these (Marriott and Edgewater)

Both the waterfront and Pike Place Market have pretty much been sanitized from the drugs and gang activity.

Don't go any farther East than Pike Place market (above 2d Ave).

There is a good flight museum in south seattle at Boeing Field

Do not be out after dark unless you have a cab waiting

Good advice—last time I was there (business—urgent—could not pick decent hotels) I was in a sketchy area.

After I left I wrote a lengthy email to the hotel explaining that they needed to tighten up their security since street people were gaining access to the lobby late at night.

They were not pleased with my email—I bet they got a lot more like it....

The Edgewater hotel is famous for the Beatles staying there in 1964. I attended a conference there once, and liked the hotel and the location. Also completely agree with those recommending the Museum of Flight. I’ve been there several times over the years, and as someone involved in aviation personally and professionally for most of my life, I think it’s one of the top three or four aviation museums in the country. I’d put it right up there with the Air and Space museum, the Museum of the Air Force, etc.

As for safety (the topic of this thread before we turned it into a travelogue), I haven’t been there since late-2019, but at least at that time downtown didn’t seem particularly dangerous, especially compared to places like Chicago or even Denver, where I live. Most of what I saw back then was just the typical liberal-caused deterioration. Lots of street people hanging around everywhere, but otherwise I felt relatively safe. I stayed at The W that time, for reference. Don’t know how events since then may have changed things, though.

Adding to llevrok’s excellent advice:

Do not go on 3rd Ave. Period.
