Both the waterfront and Pike Place Market have pretty much been sanitized from the drugs and gang activity.
Don't go any farther East than Pike Place market (above 2d Ave).
There is a good flight museum in south seattle at Boeing Field
Do not be out after dark unless you have a cab waiting
Good advice—last time I was there (business—urgent—could not pick decent hotels) I was in a sketchy area.
After I left I wrote a lengthy email to the hotel explaining that they needed to tighten up their security since street people were gaining access to the lobby late at night.
They were not pleased with my email—I bet they got a lot more like it....
As for safety (the topic of this thread before we turned it into a travelogue), I haven’t been there since late-2019, but at least at that time downtown didn’t seem particularly dangerous, especially compared to places like Chicago or even Denver, where I live. Most of what I saw back then was just the typical liberal-caused deterioration. Lots of street people hanging around everywhere, but otherwise I felt relatively safe. I stayed at The W that time, for reference. Don’t know how events since then may have changed things, though.
Yes to all of that!
Adding to llevrok’s excellent advice:
Do not go on 3rd Ave. Period.
