Meaning on the east side of the Cascades; that’s red state territory. To the west, it’s deep blue.

Seattle proper during day light hours ... try Snoqualmie, Fall City, North Bend, or even Roswell for overnighting.

The bars are temples, but the pearls ain’t free
You’ll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you’re lucky, then the god’s a she …

The drive from Portland east, up the Columbia Gorge I-84), is spectacular...if you like the view of 10,000 wind turbines (mostly east of The Dalles or Biggs Junction). Ugh. They've totally ruined some magnificent vistas.

I live in Eastern Oregon and it’s perfectly safe and fine, but not a lot to see except wheat fields. It would be a shame to miss the Gorge.

Kind of depends on which way he is driving. Downtown Portland is easy to avoid. But if I was landing in Seattle and renting a car to tour, I would take the ferry to Port Townsend and then take the Pacific Coast Hwy 101 down to Seaside, Or, then take Hwy 26 East to Gresham, OR (on the edge of Portland, turn North to I-84, go east down the gorge to Biggs, cross the bridge North back into WA, visit Mary Hill Museum and the Stonehenge replica. Then take 97 back up to Yakima, 82 to Ellensburg and then the 90 back to Seattle airport.

That would give you a nice big loop of the best places of WA and OR while missing the craphole downtowns.

Over 27 museums and interpretive centers in the Columbia River Gorge

Maryhill Museum of Art on the north side of the river in Goldendale is wonderful. It's just across from Biggs Junction. Not to be missed. Directions

The Maryhill Fruit Stand & Orchard Stand on the Columbia River on the north end of the Sam Hill Memorial Bridge (north of Biggs Junction) has spectacular fruit. This is PEACH SEASON and they are spectacular there.

If you like fishing, salmon season is open for a couple more weeks. I know if I was visiting, I’d go get me some salmon, ling cod, halibut... You usually run into decent people fishing.

Drive down to the bay and take a ferry ride. It is a beautiful way to see the city.
Seattle has quite a few folks strung out on heroin but you have to find them. You should be fine wherever you go. The homeless camps on the freeway medians are a little eye opening though. I wish I was joking.

The only thing I can offer is for him to do Alaska on Sept 10 to 20 range, specifically Denali! The grizzlies will be out putting on weight by eating the berries

That's EXACTLY when the Lovely Mrs ETS and I will be on site! Very glad to receive this good news! Although I enjoy wild berries myself, so there may be some fist-a-paws...

You cannot get across into Canada without a jab certificate.

And they just redefined “Fully Vaccinated” as having the boosters, too.

I agree. I am a fine art photographer now that I’m retired. Those g.d. turbines have ruined the Palouse where only a few years earlier were unique and lovely rolling hills of wheat, chick peas and so on.

Try building a house too close to the edge of a Gorge vista and the greeners are all over you.

The Palouse was incredibly beautiful, especially with the winter wheat just coming up. Long rolling hills to the horizon. We drive from the Tri-Cities to Spokane and haven’t seen the blight of those monstrosities in the Palouse in that area yet. But the Columbia River Gorge has 60 miles of the damned infernal machines.

They totally ruined California’s Altamont Pass about 30 years ago. Same thing — long, gorgeous rolling hills, as green as Ireland in a wet winter. All gone now.

When the country has 10 million of these damned things all over, maybe people will wake up.

They will really wake up when they reach their 30 year life limit (maybe 20), become rusting hulks and the companies that built them and installed them are all long gone bankrupt.

The crooked bill the Senate just passed is going to provide hundreds of billions of dollars more for this unworkable crap.

Bend Oregon is a great resort city but has been taken over by lefties.

Never been to Bend but sounds similar to Asheville, NC not far from me.
