I didn’t even know there was a quake till you asked if I was ok. I am 500 miles from Manila. Let me see if I can find out more.

10 km is the depth the USGS reports when it does not know the actual depth. (Which is not to say that is absolutely not at 10km. Just that it probably isn’t)

Pretty strong all the way to Manila. It was way fun on the 29th floor of our condo building. Offices were evacuated all over Makati but there doesn’t seem to be major damage among the high rises.

Exactly the same depth and magnitude that struck my city of Kumamoto , Japan not once but twice in 28 hours six years ago . When the first struck I though it was the end of the world . Can’t imagine what it is like unless you experience it .

I thought it was a rice truck going by causing a mild tremor and rumble.
We live north of Manila but south of the mountains. The quake was north of the mountains.

USGS estimate is ~300k population “living near areas that could have produced liquefaction in this earthquake”. Landslides ~3k.

I would guess these figures are subject to revision as more info. comes in.

Why would anyone live 29 floors up in an earthquake active country?

I prefer the conspiracy theory of destruction of deep underground military base.

Because they do. This place is wall to wall high rises, like a lot of Asia these days. Modern engineering and etc. is supposed to keep all these towers up through intensity 8 at least. Come the day this MIGHT prove to be a bad idea, but for now its convenient.
