There was something in the NY Post about her friends having always worried about the staircase. Evidently it was very lovely looking, but very treacherous.
I once almost broke my neck on the staircase at the NY Public Library on East 23rd street. Don’t know what it was made of, but it was so worn and so slippery that even though I’d been up and down it countless times I lost my footing once and barely was able to get it back. It was quite scary and I was a young person, probably about 12 or 13. If I’d’ve been elderly it might have been the end of me.
Every morning when I go down my steps I say a prayer that God give me a sure step during the day.
