Maya Hawke says she 'wouldn't exist' had her mother Uma Thurman not made the decision to get an abortion in her late teens.
The actress, 23, spoke on the subject during Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show in wake of the Supreme Court's recent overturning of Roe v. Wade.
'Both of my parents' lives would've been totally derailed if she hadn't had access to safe and legal health care — fundamental health care,' she explained to host Jimmy Fallon.
Thurman shares Maya, as well as son Levon Roan, 20, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, 51. She is also mother to daughter Luna from her relationship with French financier Arpad Busson.
May referenced a 'beautiful essay' Thurman, 52, penned late last year in The Washington Post where she opposed Texas' ban on abortions past the six-week mark.
n the op-ed, the Pulp Fiction star opened up about how her 'darkest secret' was having an abortion as a teenager after having sex with a 'much older man'.
Thurman - who has since welcomed three children - admitted the 'hard' decision gave her the opportunity to 'grow up and become the mother she is today.

Many people don't know this but before she was famous Marilyn Monroe was raped as a teen while in foster care. The baby, a boy was adopted out and Marilyn never saw the child again nor did she try to. She said "he has his life now".
Idiocy comes in all shapes, sizes, and packages. Bet.
"Put this in your body or you don't have a job."
Harvey Weinstein
And she did willingly.
She’s a ree ree.
So interesting how women think a baby will destroy their bodies and careers. SHELLY-ANN FRASER-PRYCE won a world 200 meter sprinting title as a mother. Both Marilyn and Raquel Welch became huge swimsuit models and launched their careers after giving birth.
“... if she hadn’t had access to safe and legal health care ....”
The euphemisms these people use are something else. The Nazis were somewhat more honest when they used the term “final solution” to a “problem” they wanted to eradicate.
These people really need to stop with the “I’m glad I exist but don’t care that that other baby got disposed of” stories.
Everyone is so proud of their abortion. It’s disgraceful.
Guess Maya wouldn’t care if she was the one aborted.
Knowing Hollywood I bet half these abortion stories are made up.
More like, “I might have gotten pregnant” but turn it into a major drama.
Abortion is the new bisexual. Just a few years ago they all got in line to announce they go both ways. Now they all had abortions.
She’s virtue signaling that she’s special...
Plus... she has the ability to forecast different lifestyle scenarios based on altered time/space continuum, we are so very fortunate to have the level of clairvoyance among us here on our earth mother...
Sheesh, Maya just justified her existence! Thank your god Maya... and that mass of cells extracted from the comfort of its mothers womb. That unfortunate baby, trusted its mother. You should be more careful around that trusted life source of yours, she has established herself as flighty and unpredictable...
I would suspect that Uma Thurman and other Hollywood stars have made numerous immoral or questionable decisions as a means to climb to the top. It explains a lot about their moral posturing.
There’s a good reason that for most of history that entertainers were considered to be the lower rungs of society.
[...] she has the ability to forecast different lifestyle scenarios based on altered time/space continuum [...]
Maya should also thank John Wilkes Booth for her existence: If Booth hadn't assassinated Lincoln, we'd be living in an entirely different time-line now.
Undoubtedly one where zeppelins are the chief form of air-travel.
Regards,
Maya’s aborted brother or sister was unavailable for comment.
No need for a murder to change fate.
She’s not even pretty.
No, she isn’t.
There are “pictures” of her online as well.
Following in the casting couch footstep of mommy.
Hollywood is truly disgusting.
She has no idea what turns her mother's life would have taken had Thurma exemplified morality by assuming the responsibility for her decision to engage in copulatin that made her a mother.
Any human is faced with a panoply of decisions, many of which bears the stain of sin if chosen rather than goodness if the natural birth is allowed to proceed with a blessing.
Maya may indeed not have come into existence if her natural mother had acted differently, but instead there is now a Maya who currently seems unable to accept that without any doubt whatsoever her birthing agent is deliberately a murderer, a baby-killer, and a deconstructor of civil decency, rationalizng that destroying the life of a helpless human would yield better results for herself and the society about her than assuming the greater purpose in life, to wit: preparing to bear this first child and give it instruction in the foundation of reliable accountability for one's actions.
Maya fails to recognize that her birth into this environment, and moulding her philosophy of life to accept and approve immoral behavior is a lesser existence than one proceeding from righteousness of both of her parents.
The greater substance is that her father is proven as a co-conspirator in encouraging the extinguishing of the life of an unborn babe, which makes him as guilty as his copulating partner. So both of Maya's parents are unrepentant murderers, headed for death and hell as the outcome.
In attributing her mothers sinful, murderous action and approving of it is not a very good omen for Maya's own contribution to a decent and peaceable theme of the society in which she lives and influences, if she mistakenly copies depravity as if it were beneficial for all.
Because of the overspreading acculturation of successive generations of children, we now have an overruling segment of the population whose morality is oriented toward murder is an acceptable chice to improve on's own life at the expense of another. Is it almost too late for our wise jurists to reinstitute the value of all human life by once more cleaving to the ancient Christian rule of carrying childbirth through to completion, then raising those infants to prefer godliness as the happy way of life?
Two things decided wrongly by our Suoreme Court have led to the ruination of our culture: (1) the Constitutionally unsupported attempt to raise w watertight wall if separation of Christian morality from governmental decisons. and (2) unconstitutional permission for children's lives to be terminated that the time and resources dedicated to their lives may be diverted to laborious activity in producuing and consuming devices and services not necessary for a population to have life and liberty from which pursuit of happiness ensues as originally planned by the Creator of mankind.
